Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the first test drive of the GAZİRAY Project in Gaziantep, which is 25,5 kilometers long, together with the General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), Hasan Pezük and Gaziantep protocol.
After receiving information from the Minister Karaismailoğlu and the authorities at the GAZİRAY construction site, TCDD General Manager Hasan Pezük, Gaziantep Governor Davut Gül, Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin and protocol members got on GAZİRAY at the Beylerbeyi stop.
Making a statement at Gaziantep Train Station after the test drive, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that they have implemented MARMARAY in Istanbul, BAŞKENTRAY in Ankara and İZBAN in Izmir.
Expressing that they carried out a very successful test drive in GAZİRAY, Karaismailoğlu said, “We also examined the works on the route, at the stops and at the Gaziantep Station, where we are with you now. The GAZİRAY Project, the construction of which was started by our Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, will be one of our important urban rail system projects.” he said.
Emphasizing that the most important way to eliminate the traffic problem experienced in parallel with the increasing population and the number of vehicles in the metropolitan cities is to expand the rail systems, Karaismailoğlu continued: “So far, 12 kilometers of the 811,4 kilometers urban rail system line under operation in 312,2 provinces across our country. and by the Ministry of Infrastructure. Currently, there is a total of 13 kilometers of urban rail system construction in 161 projects under construction by our Ministry. Work continues on the 7 kilometer metro line, consisting of 103 lines, in Istanbul. We are opening Pendik (Tavşantepe)-Sabiha Gökçen Airport Subway Line, Gayrettepe-Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport Subway Line, Başakşehir-Çam Sakura-Kayaşehir Subway Line within this year.”
Karaismailoğlu explained that 7 different projects are continuing in Istanbul, and that the works in Kocaeli, Ankara, Konya, Kayseri, Bursa and Gaziantep are continuing in a planned and fast manner. With a giant investment of approximately 5 billion liras, we will connect the city center of Gaziantep and two industrial zones, and give a breath of fresh air to urban traffic.”
Noting that 25,5 high-speed trains, 2 suburban lines, and 2 electrical and signaled railway lines were built in the project on a route of 4 kilometers, Karaismailoğlu said, “16 stations, 5,5 cut-and-cover tunnels with a total length of 2 km, 1 bridge, 12 sub-stations. We built an overpass and 26 culverts. In addition, the electric train sets to be used in GAZİRAY are produced by TÜRASAŞ, the largest representative of the rail systems sector in our country.” he said.
Referring to the fact that the domestic and national vehicles to be used is a source of joy and pride, Minister Karaismailoğlu said that they continue the test drive in the project and that they are in the final stage of the certification process. Stating that they will open GAZİRAY when they come to Gaziantep shortly, Karaismailoğlu continued as follows: “Of course, our work in Gaziantep is not limited to the GAZİRAY Project. In the last 20 years, as the Ministry, we have invested more than 20 billion liras in Gaziantep's transportation and communication infrastructure. We continue our planned investments. Konya-Karaman-Niğde (Ulukışla)-Mersin (Yenice)-Adana high-speed rail and Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High Speed Railway to provide transportation by high-speed train from Istanbul, Ankara and Konya to the provinces of Karaman-Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye and Gaziantep. We planned our projects. With the Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High Speed Railway Project, the distance between Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep, which is currently 361 kilometers, will decrease to 312,5 kilometers with the completion of the project, and the travel time will be reduced to 2 hours and 15 minutes.
