Fishermen Say 'Vira Bismillah' to the New Season After 4,5 Months

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu attended the opening of 2022-2023 Fishing Season at Poyrazköy Fishing Shelter. Making a statement before sailing, Karaismailoğlu said, “We are excited about the opening of the New Season. I hope we will have a fruitful and auspicious season and our boats will be filled with fish. We will listen to you tonight, we will accompany you," he said.

Expressing that they are ready for the new season after a break of 4,5 months, Karaismailoğlu noted that fishing is difficult and arduous, and that the fishermen will work with great devotion and produce labor to send cheap and quality fish to the table of all citizens. Pointing to the importance of the Bosphorus, Karaismailoğlu said, “The Bosphorus is also an important transit route of fish migration routes. There are important fishing areas on the shores of the Bosphorus, on the Black Sea side, and in the Marmara Sea. Poyrazköy, Rumeli Feneri, Sarıyer are of course our villages that make a living by fishing. Hopefully this season will be a productive one." he said.

WE WILL ELIMINATE THE RISKS IN THE BOSPHORUS BY MAKING THE CHANNEL ISTANBUL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Pointing out that the Bosphorus is one of the most difficult transit routes in the world, Karaismailoğlu said, “It is one of the most important routes where around 40 thousand ships pass. Our fishermen also fulfill an important function in this region where there is a significant traffic density. Of course, the planning of Kanal Istanbul is actually a planning arising from these needs here. Therefore, both this global logistics and trade volumes should increase, the waiting times in the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea should be reduced, and the burden of the Bosphorus should be lightened. For this reason, the Kanal Istanbul project is an important project that will build Kanal Istanbul as soon as possible, eliminate these risks and dangers in the Bosphorus and put the Bosphorus at the service of Istanbulites. Our work there also started step by step and continues. Of course, it is one of the largest long-term infrastructure projects in the world. In order to finish it on time, our service continues with the transportation routes.”

EVERY DAY WE ARE STRENGTHENING OUR STRENGTH IN OUR BLUE HOMELAND

Minister Karaismailoğlu reminded that by fulfilling the rights granted to the country by the Montreux Straits Convention, they rearranged the price tariff for non-stop crossings in the Bosphorus and continued as follows:

“We, as Turkey, used to charge lighthouse, rescue and medical fees from those who passed through the Bosphorus without stopping. We have put it into operation with a new arrangement by adapting it to today's conditions. Of course, our seas are our blue homeland. The continuation of our sovereignty borders. That's why we are strengthening our strength in our blue homeland with each passing day. We support our fishermen, we are building quality and comfortable fishing shelters all over our country so that they can provide better quality and safe service, and we will continue to do so. In addition, to increase the water levels in our fishing shelters, our dredging vessels are working on all sides to serve our fishermen free of charge.”

Noting that there are very important developments in the fishing, port sectors, maritime trade and shipbuilding industry in Turkey, Karaismailoğlu said, “We export fishing and fishing boats to countries such as Iceland, Ireland and England, which are the largest countries in the world's fishing industry. Again, our country is one of the pioneers of the world in yacht ships. Together with all sectors, we make our presence felt in the maritime sector to the whole world. These will continue from now on,” he concluded.
