Fishermen of Izmir Say 'Vira Bismillah' to the New Hunting Season

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He attended the traditional meeting held at the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fisheries Market due to the end of the fishing ban. Minister Tunç Soyer wished a prosperous season to the tradesmen, who reunited their nets with the sea after months.

The Mayor, who visited the tradesmen with Buca Mayor Erhan Kılıç and Torbalı Mayor Mithat Tekin, at the traditional meeting held at the Fisheries Market of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Buca. Tunç Soyer, not breaking the tradition, made the day's siftah. President Soyer wished a prosperous season to the tradesmen, who reunited their networks with the sea after months.

“We saw great hope”

Mayor Soyer stated that the scenery he saw in the Fisheries Market, where he came early in the morning, made him happy and said, “We saw great hope this morning. Our brothers are after their share in a very difficult time in the country. It is a really grueling industry that mixes day and night. God help them all. Let's have a good season," he said.

“It is important to protect the seas”

Mentioning the importance of the seas for sustainable fishing, President Soyer said, “One of our 5 strategic products that we highlight in our agricultural strategy, which we put forward with the understanding of Another Agriculture is Possible, is coastal fisheries. Sustainability of our fertile seas is the most precious thing. Because for thousands of years, the sea has always offered that abundance. We must leave this to future generations. Life is not something that begins and ends with us. We all need to protect the seas. We must not allow anyone to pollute and slaughter the sea. But I believe that the industry has that awareness.”

Fuel hikes will be reflected in fish prices

Fishermen are also waiting for the new season to be fruitful. Nurettin Doğan stated that they received special orders from various provinces of Turkey and said, “There are all kinds of seafood in the Aegean. We will send this lobster we caught off the coast of Karaburun to Diyarbakır.”
Soner Candemir also stated that the season started well and said, “I think it will be better than last year, but diesel prices are high. This will be reflected in fish prices. I hope our citizens will eat a lot of fish," he said.

Önder Sağlam said that there are sardines, anchovies, bluefish, bluefish, tabby, coupes and mostly bonito in the seas this year, and Murat Sağlam said that they are hopeful for the seas.
