The CIIE-coded Sino-Europe freight train departed from Hamburg, Germany, to Shanghai, China, yesterday. The train carrying the products to be exhibited at the China International Import Fair (CIIE) goes directly from Hamburg to Shanghai for the second time.
Of the 44 40-ft containers, 14 are filled with auto parts and pipe materials. The train is expected to pass through Poland as well as Belarus and Russia and arrive in Shanghai in 22 days.
Alexander Thonert, Trade Development Manager of InterRail Europe GmbH, who attended the ceremony held for the train service yesterday, stated that the China-Europe freight train services opened a logistics channel that facilitates bilateral trade, as it carries large quantities and various products.
Reminding that cargo train lines have been opened between Hamburg and more than 20 cities in China, Thonert said that since Shanghai and Hamburg are sister cities, the CIIE train carries German products.
Hamburg Municipality official Moritz Lohmann stated that the Belt and Road initiative is important for Hamburg. Lohmann pointed out that the Belt and Road initiative, based on the “win-win” rule, helps intensify bilateral trade.
