Alstom, the world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has opened a new Engineering and Innovation center in Maia, in the Porto region. The company is moving forward in its commitment to increase its footprint in Portugal and better serve its clients and projects in the country.
Alstom's new site in Maia will be its main mission to develop cutting-edge solutions in digital mobility and signaling, both for the Portuguese market and for Alstom's international projects worldwide. With a total area of approximately 460 m2 and a start-up team of 25 engineers and technicians, the center has an ambitious growth plan for the coming years.
The new facility also includes a warehouse with capacity for the storage and repair of components for existing projects and customers that Alstom is working with in Portugal.

Alstom has been operating in Portugal for over 30 years, and two of the three trains currently in circulation in our country are manufactured by Alstom or with Alstom technology, including high-speed, regional, metro and tram trains. In the digital realm, more than 1.500 km of the Portuguese rail network and more than 500 on-board units are managed by Alstom's Convel ATP system, a signaling solution developed specifically for the Portuguese market. In terms of urban mobility, Alstom was responsible for the signaling system for Metro do Porto and the 102 trains currently serving this network, and also provided the ATP (Automatic Train Protection) system installed on 18 trains recently purchased by this operator.
