According to a report published in the South China Morning Post newspaper, it seems that a historical turning point has been reached in the transportation industry. China has started tests of its first suspended blue magnetic train (maglev). This vehicle, called the 'Sky Train', is a vehicle that flies under the rails without touching the rails and uses very little energy.
On the 800-meter-long test track, the train moves through very powerful magnets made of rare earth. The train, which has a capacity of 88 passengers and normally travels at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, can reach a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
According to researchers from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology responsible for the design, this train consumes an extremely small amount of electricity. It is stated that the construction cost is one-tenth of a subway car. This, no doubt, whets the appetite of all municipalities that want to have cheap and low-energy transportation vehicles.
In fact, China invests heavily in maglev train technology, which can travel at speeds of up to 600 kilometers per hour without touching the rails. However, these are vehicles that consume a lot of energy, unlike the "Sky Train". On the other hand, it should be underlined that the spread of this new technology creates a very serious opportunity for China, which has abundant rare metal stocks. The 80% capacity of rare metals used in the world's magnet production is controlled by China. Scientists have been working on this project since the early 2000s. However, the development of artificial intelligence in recent years has enabled researchers to make very important advances in this field.
