Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyeralso came together with the families of martyrs and veterans hosted at his office on September 19, Veterans Day, for dinner. Chairman of the meeting held at the Historical Coal Gas Factory. Tunç Soyer and his wife Neptün Soyer, Republican People's Party İzmir Deputies Kani Beko and his wife Müberra Beko, Bedri Serter, Murat Minister, Mahir Polat, district mayors, Aegean Army Chief of Staff Brigadier General Burhan Aktaş, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Southern Sea Area Command, Marine Colonel Cüneyt Çividoken and members of the army, ambassadors and consuls, bureaucrats of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, families of martyrs and heads and members of veteran associations attended the meeting. At the meeting, after a moment of silence in memory of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all martyrs, a prayer was read.

With the families of martyrs and veterans in the organization sohbet President of the Tunç Soyer, in his speech, “We humans exist with their roots. Whoever does not know his past has no future. That's why the only way we can build the future is through loyalty to our roots. For us, loyalty to our heroic veterans and saintly martyrs is not just a duty. Loyalty is a debt for us to the past and the future. It is one of our main reasons for living. It is the guarantee of offering our children a dignified life. We can never forget our martyrs and veterans who gave their lives so that we could breathe here today. We don't forget. So we have to remember. So, on this precious day and always, we must hold tight to their legacy and to each other. Our martyrs and veterans paid the highest price that could be paid for the indivisible integrity of these lands. We will keep this homeland, freedom and republic alive forever," he said.
“Do not deprive us of your shadow”
Stating that they took concrete steps to solve the problems of the families of martyrs and veterans by establishing the Martyrs' Relatives and Veterans Branch Directorate of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Mayor Soyer said, "Our martyrs and veterans are the life of our country. If we live here today, if we stand tall, it's not just our own craft. A spiritual part of our martyrs continues to live in each of us. I bow respectfully before their cherished memory and share their families' pain with all my heart. Our veterans, our great plane trees whose roots reach to the sky. Despite the scorching heat of life, do not deprive us of your giant shadow. Get your right. I want you to know that we will continue to work hard and show our hearts to be worthy of you.”
