Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, “We are working hard to raise our country, entrusted to us by our ancestors, to the level of contemporary civilizations. In this context, the revival of our cemeteries is one of the most important issues for us.” said.

A ceremony was held for the opening of the Süngü Bayırı, Albayrak Ridge, Kılıç Bayırı and Kılıç Dere martyrdoms, which were restored by Gaziantep Şahinbey Municipality and Çanakkale Wars and Gallipoli Historical Site Presidency, on the historical Gallipoli Peninsula.

In his speech at the ceremony at the Albayrak Ridge Martyrs' Cemetery, Minister Ersoy said that the restoration work in the region regarding the martyrdoms of the ancestors, who changed the course of history with their heroism and shielded his chest for the independence and future of the country, was completed.

Stating that whatever is done will not be enough to keep alive the memory of the ancestors who entrusted the heavenly homeland, Minister Ersoy said, “We are working hard to be worthy of them and to raise our country, which was entrusted to us by our ancestors, to the level of contemporary civilizations. In this context, the revival of our cemeteries is one of the most important issues for us.” made its assessment.

Minister Ersoy stated that they consider determining the borders as the first step in order to organize the martyrdoms.

“Burial of Martyrs with Uniforms Without Shrouding” in Tombstone Design

Providing information about the work carried out in these 4 martyrdoms, Minister Ersoy said:

“We matched the Şüheda cemetery, whose locations were marked on the 1/5000 scale Çanakkale Fortification Map prepared by Şevki Pasha, the Map Commander of the time, on the historical Gallipoli Peninsula, with today's satellite images. We clarified the boundaries of findings by conducting a georadar scan in this designated area. This step was the one that we evaluated most sensitively. Afterwards, we carried out the landscaping of our martyrdoms with cypress trees, which are the symbol of unity, unity. We used the monument model specified in the Martyrdom Regulations in our 4 cemeteries in Süngü Bayırı, Albayrakridge, Kılıç Bayırı and Kılıç Dere, which constitute the spirit of Çanakkale. In the design of the monument, we embroidered the name 'Eş-Şehed', which is one of the 99 names of Allah, which means the one who sees everything and witnesses everything, with the crescent and star. We did not want to use the common order method in the tombstone design. On the other hand, considering the heroism experienced on the battlefield, we preferred a system that represents the 'burial of the martyrs in their current uniforms without being shrouded' at the place where they were martyred.”

Minister Ersoy emphasized that the heroic soldiers who fought against both poverty and seven worlds in these regions, which were the turning point of the Çanakkale Wars, left a blessed homeland and a glorious history.

Stating that they know that there are 589 martyrs in Süngü Bayırı Martyrdom, 968 martyrs in Albayrak Sırrı Martyrdom, 1131 martyrs in Kılıç Bayırı Martyrdom and 41 martyrs in Kılıç Dere, “We have reached the records of 2 martyrs lying here. I commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all our martyrs with mercy and gratitude, who made people say 'Canakkale is impassable'. May their souls rest in peace and their place in heaven." he said.

Thanking Şahinbey Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu and his team for their support, Ersoy said, “I invite everyone who loves their country and is proud to live in the shadow of our red flag to visit these places. I especially ask families with children to bring their children to this visit and to tell them about our glorious history.” used the phrase.

AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Bülent Turan, Çanakkale Wars and Gallipoli Historical Site President İsmail Kaşdemir and Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu also addressed the participants.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Özgül Özkan Yavuz, AK Party Çanakkale Deputy Jülide İskenderoğlu, Gallipoli 2nd Corps Commander Major General Rasim Yaldız, Bosphorus and Garrison Commander Rear Admiral Mustafa Turhan Ecevit and other interested persons attended the ceremony.
