China's Recommendations to Combat Climate Change

Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the world at the United Nations (UN) High Level Meeting on Climate Change yesterday.

Wang Yi said, “President Xi said earlier that the world is one big family, humanity is a community, and climate change is a shared challenge that requires cooperation. Therefore, the countries of the world should join hands and fight against climate change.” said.

Wang Yi also made four suggestions

Wang said, “Our first proposal is to achieve positive and balanced results on issues such as climate change mitigation, adaptation and financing, for the successful organization of the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The second is to ensure the implementation of the previously signed documents and to try to achieve the goals set out in the Paris Agreement. The third is to accelerate the green transformation and switch from traditional energy to new energy. The fourth is to create a good political environment for the fight against climate change. Unilateralism, geopolitical games and green barriers must be set aside. Developed countries must achieve carbon neutrality ahead of schedule, open up development space for developing countries, and rebuild North-South mutual trust through practical action.” he said.

Minister Wang Yi, who also touched on the efforts to combat climate change in China, said that China will be the country that reduces carbon emissions the most in the world's history in the shortest time. Reminding that China is ahead of its climate targets in 2020, Wang noted that China will realize the miracle of green transformation as well as taking on its own international responsibilities.
