China's Call to Protect the Safety of Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant

Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, urged interested parties to jointly protect the security of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.

An extraordinary meeting was held yesterday by the UN Security Council on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.

Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, reminded that they are pleased with the progress made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) delegation during the visit to the power plant. Pointing out that China supports the IAEA experts to stay at the plant in the long term, Geng said that they expect the experts to provide consistent, stable and professional technical support to protect the security of the facility.

Pointing out that the threat of armed conflicts to the security of the power plant since the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis has made the whole world worried about the nuclear disaster, Geng said, “We cannot rely only on luck or act recklessly to save countless lives and the happiness of a few generations. We must do everything we can to prevent a possible disaster from occurring.” said.

Geng urged the international community to step up diplomatic efforts and speed up the parties concerned to return to negotiations as soon as possible and achieve a ceasefire and root out the nuclear risk.
