Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerIn line with the principle of equal opportunity in sports, the “Sea People and Swimming Education Project” organized by the Metropolitan Municipality for children from Kadifekale has come to an end. The children participating in the project received their certificates at the end of the two-month training.

Children from Kadifekale can both swim and get to know the sea better. The “Sea People and Swimming Education Project” organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the children of Kadifekale has come to an end. 75 children who attended the two-month maritime and swimming training at Marina İzmir received their certificates. Children were taught swimming, optimist, sailor's knot and canoe riding in the training program, which was set out with the slogan "Let no children be able to swim in İzmir".

Forty thousand children learned swimming in two years.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Head Hakan Orhunbilge, Sports Club President Ersan Odaman, Kadifekale District Headman Davut Tekin as well as Sports Club Secretary General Barış Şeref and Water Sports Director Soykan Üstünkar attended the certificate ceremony. Hakan Orhunbilge said, “The smiles on the faces of our children who received their certificates made us very happy. In addition to the facilities in Marina İzmir, Celal Atik Swimming Pool and Buca, we have taught swimming to forty thousand children in the last two years with portable pools. In a region like Izmir with a long coastline, we do not see these figures as sufficient and we want to reach our children in every region with different projects.”

Kadifekale Mukhtar Davut Tekin said: “Everyone should protect these children. We will do many projects for our children in partnership with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Two months of training went very well. The certificate ceremony was really gratifying.”
