Deputy; It refers to a person with a political identity who represents the people who vote in a parliament, also called a parliamentarian or a deputy.

Requirements to Become a Member of Parliament

Those who want to be a member of parliament must have the qualifications set forth in Article 76 of the constitution. These features can be listed as follows:

  • to be 18 years old,
  • Being a Turkish citizen,
  • To be at least primary school graduate,
  • Having fulfilled his military service,
  • Not to be banned from public duties,
  • Not to have been sentenced to a total of 1 year or more imprisonment and heavy imprisonment, except for negligent crimes,
  • Not revealing the secrets of the state, rigging official tenders, and not committing smuggling and some disgraceful crimes,
  • Participating in anarchic or ideological demonstrations means not being imprisoned for these crimes.

What Education Do I Need To Get To Become A Member Of Parliament?

You do not need to be a university graduate or attend a certificate program to become a member of parliament. At the very least, it is enough for you to graduate from a primary school, apply for parliament and be elected. For this reason, there is no special training given to become a parliamentarian.

In the first six months of 2022, the salary of a deputy was 40 thousand liras. In the second half of the year, the salary of the deputy was 56 thousand TL.
