Floods in Pendik Became History

İSKİ, the well-established institution of IMM, completed the project that will end the floods in Pendik with an investment of 360 million liras. Speaking at the ceremony held for the completion of the project, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluStating that the opposition parties in Istanbul are persecuting İSKİ, he brought the word to the Melen Dam, whose renovation works were stopped. Reminding that Melen was started with the statement "We will guarantee the water of Istanbul", İmamoğlu said, "The minister of that period had made a description of "We will open it in 2016", giving the date and time. And since the day and hour given by the minister of that time, exactly 6 years have passed. And now we are faced with a cracked dam with an uncertain fate, an uncertain future. As soon as we took office, when we brought this up, we realized that our state does not know about it. The ruler of our state does not even know about it. When we brought this up, they started the tender process again and made a tender in February of 2020. That's when they declared, 'We will open this place in 2023,'" he said. Pointing out that the uncertainty in Melen has deepened after the contractor company terminated the contract with 8 percent progress in the near future, İmamoğlu said, “Although 20 years of Turkish administration and 20 years of IMM administration, they are at their own will in both areas, Istanbul, which they call 'our apple of the eye, our love'. A process of power that has failed to solve even its most vital problem… We can only solve it in the process of the mind that finds a solution, not with personal love, but with social love, belief in its nation, together with its nation.”

İSKİ, the long-established institution of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has completed the wastewater, rainwater and stream rehabilitation works in Pendik. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu; He made a speech at the ceremony held for the inauguration of the projects that put an end to the floods in Pendik, with the construction of 56 kilometers of wastewater network line, 8,3 kilometers of rainwater lines and 5 kilometers of stream rehabilitation. Stating that they are in different districts of Istanbul every day as part of the “150 Projects in 150 Days” marathon, İmamoğlu said, “Those who follow us will get a little tired of seeing us in another district of Istanbul every day. Because we have set ourselves as a goal to serve Istanbul holistically and to be the administration that provides an egalitarian municipality service in every corner of Istanbul in this sense. Therefore, we will continue like this in Kartal one day, in Maltepe one day, and in Beylikdüzü another day. Today, we are in our Pendik district, which is one of the most important districts of our Istanbul, with its population and development. We have been continuing our way with the same determination for three years. Our goal is; To provide an equal and fair service to our 16 million people.”

“WE DO MUNICIPAL SOLUTION”

Noting that they have solved the flooding problems of Pendik, which have been neglected for many years, with the infrastructure investments of İSKİ, İmamoğlu said, “As you all follow closely, there are floods in some parts of Pendik, as we live in every district, and processes where wastewater and rain water mix in some parts. and the problems it creates… Some of these problems are environmental problems. At the same time, especially with the increase in the waste load -our waste water is sent to Tuzla treatment from here - the reflection of the increased load with the mixing of rain water is also a loss of energy and a cost. Therefore, we produce solutions-oriented projects for these processes that bother our citizens. In fact, we are doing solution municipality. In other words, rather than talking about the problem, it is a process that accelerates the solution process and increases the quality of life of Istanbul residents.

“WE ARE WORKING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN gangrenous”

Emphasizing that they have been trying to bring a permanent model for Istanbul to IMM institutions since the 3 years they took office, İmamoğlu said, “The main principle of our roadmap, our model; sustainability and especially speed. In other words, both the sustainability of the work you do and if there is a gangrenous problem, to solve it quickly.” Emphasizing that they carry out the process without wasting the citizens' money, İmamoğlu said: “With this investment we made in Pendik, our work is not over. What we have done is that an investment of 1 billion 600 million liras is continuing in Pendik, only on the İSKİ line, together with what we have done and what we will do. So we continue to strengthen Istanbul with investments. You will no longer experience those bad scenes in Pendik that all of you have unfortunately experienced or known. With the completed investment of 360 million liras, you will not experience the bad images that the waters turn into floods and fill the streets or roads. You will not experience images of cars being submerged or in danger of drowning. While the rains should be blessings, we will not let our citizens experience their reflection as torture in this district. While we eliminate these images, which do not suit the Istanbul of the 21st century, from our lives in the whole of Istanbul, we continue to invest in a very small part of it. Dirty water will not mix with clean water, nor will floods or floods be in our lives.”

“The opposition in Istanbul is persecuting İSKİ”

Pointing out that the investment will cure the problems of 220 thousand people living in the region, İmamoğlu opened a separate paragraph for İSKİ in his speech. “İSKİ is an institution that directly touches the lives of our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and our Istanbul, and has such important investments that we have not seen underground, that its service should never be interrupted. Regarding İSKİ, the opposition in Istanbul for 3 years and the understanding that will be the opposition in Turkey in the next election, namely the People's Alliance, inflict such persecution on İSKİ… İSKİ has only one income, the water bill. Water service in Istanbul has become the cheapest water service in Turkey. Of course, in these poor times, we would like to make such a contribution to people in their distress. But Istanbul has services that need to continue, need to be done and received. Look, we are already dealing with the extremely high bills of Istanbul, especially in water.”

“İSKİ'S EXPENDITURES ARE NOT EXPENSES THAT WILL BE DELIVERED”

Reminding that they reduced the water bills of Istanbul residents by 40 percent when they took office, İmamoğlu said, “However, from that day on, İSKİ is an institution that needs to protect itself against Turkey's increasing costs. What did today's opposition do? By using the majority in the Assembly, a rise in WPI and CPI rates is made automatically every month in order to protect itself against inflation in water administrations in many provinces of Turkey routinely. They canceled this. Today's opposition in Istanbul, unfortunately, using its majority in the Assembly, canceled it. Two; They didn't give us a raise in the processes we needed to get a raise. water life. There is no life without water. In other words, the water bill is clear, and you plan your expenses with the income from there. The expenses of Istanbul and İSKİ are not such an expense that can be delayed.”

“WE ARE AGAINST A GOVERNMENT THAT WILL DESERVE TO DO EVIL TO ISTANBUL”

Citing İSKİ's wastewater and rainwater separation works in districts and its investments in Tuzla and Baltalimanı as an example, İmamoğlu said, “None of these are investments that can be pushed aside or postponed. We are faced with a government that is blind to even prevent them, that is to say, 'We have lost Istanbul, we will take the pain out of this administration' and even risk doing harm to the people of Istanbul. However, we do not disrupt the process, take risks, and prevent waste… Look, we continue to offer our people even the investments that they neglected for 15-20 years in their period, by investing in these difficult days. I want this to be known,” he said. Sharing the information that the reconstruction works at the Melen Dam have stopped, İmamoğlu said:

“Maybe THERE IS NO NEWS THAT MELEN HAS STOPED”

“We are talking about a dam that will guarantee Istanbul's water for almost a year. Giving the day and time, the minister of that period had made a description of "We will open it in 2016". At that time, they declared, 'We will open this place in 2023'. Let me tell you where we are now. Since then, 8 percent progress has been made at the construction site. The contractor is a contractor who terminated the contract by benefiting from the circular they just issued. In other words, there is no contractor working in Melen at the moment. In other words, those who say, 'We will guarantee Istanbul's water', fail to solve even the most vital problem of Istanbul, which they say, 'Our apple of the eye, our love', despite the fact that 20 years of Turkish administration and 20 years of IMM administration are at their own will in both areas. a power process. We can only solve it in the process of the mind that finds a solution, not with personal love, but with social love, belief in its nation, together with its nation. And I really wanted to convey that today Melen stopped and Melen did not walk - maybe they do not know - including the highest authority of our nation from here. And they're just a little quicker on everything we transmit. Maybe we can get another benefit this way. Unfortunately, the situation in which they brought down İSKİ and unfortunately the situation in which they brought down Istanbul is exactly the same. But we will continue on our way with faith regarding all our projects that really need to be done and should be done in this city.”

BAŞA: “COST OF INVESTMENT is 360 MILLION LIRA”

Speaking at the ceremony, İSKİ General Manager Şafak Başa said, “The cost of all these investments is approximately 360 million TL. However, we can easily say that the total investment costs of our investments, which have been completed in our Pendik district as of June 2019 and are still ongoing, and we also have drinking water and treatment investments in the region, have exceeded 1 billion 675 million liras. Stream improvement is really important in Istanbul. Between the dates specified in the Istanbul period, we have also carried out more than 75 kilometers of creek rehabilitation work in more than 40 creeks. Again, at problematic points, we are about to complete these investments quickly, as in the case of Haramidere.
