Installation of technical equipment for the Start-up and Commissioning Backup Boiler Department has begun at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) site. These equipment will provide steam production for the units during the commissioning phase of the nuclear power plant.

Works at the facility are carried out by Turkish engineers and builders of Sintek, one of the biggest contractors of Akkuyu NPP. In this context, 150 boiler rooms weighing 5 tons have been installed so far. Preliminary preparations for the foundation, building skeleton and surrounding structures of the facility have also been completed. The next stage will be the installation of pumps, pipelines and electrical equipment of the boiler room. Thus, an iron structure with a total weight of 175 tons will be installed at the facility. Special boilers to be located in the newly established Start-up and Commissioning Backup Boiler Department were produced at the boiler equipment factory in Russia. The boilers were delivered to the Akkuyu NPP site by sea.

All technological processes of the installation process are accompanied by Turkish engineers working in close cooperation with Russian experts.

Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. Sergey Butckikh, First Deputy General Manager and Director of NGS Construction, said in a statement on the subject: “Many auxiliary buildings are being built in parallel at the Akkuyu NPP site to ensure uninterrupted operation of the power plant. The Startup and Commissioning Backup Boiler is one of these facilities. Boilers inside the boiler room will be installed for all four power units. One of the most important features of the current installation process is that it is carried out only by Turkish experts. Sintek engineers put out a high quality at all stages of construction, including equipment installation. Our experience in localizing production at the NPP site is yielding increasingly positive results and we plan to increase the participation of Turkish companies in the later stages of construction.”

Sintek Construction Department Section Chief Serkan Kandemir also evaluated the progress of the boiler room construction and the point reached with the following words: “We have completed the concrete foundation for the construction of the Startup and Commissioning Backup Boiler Room, which is an important facility for Akkuyu NPP. In addition to the pit and filling device, the equipment foundations and insulation works have also been completed. At the same time, we started the mechanical part and the assembly of the steel structures. Basic equipment of the boiler room; that is, 5 special boilers were installed. Now we proceed to assemble the steel frame of the building. After the installation and assembly of the equipment is completed, we will deliver our work.”

Work on the implementation of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), Turkey's first nuclear power plant, continues rapidly. Construction and installation works continue uninterruptedly in all parts of the main and auxiliary facilities such as the four power units, as well as coastal hydrotechnical structures, power distribution systems, administrative buildings, training-practice center and nuclear power plant physical protection facilities.
