A meeting was held with the participation of press members from Gazi city for the 15th International Gaziantep Gastronomy Festival (GastroAntep), which will be organized by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, under the coordination of Gaziantep Governorship and in cooperation with Gaziantep Development Foundation (GAGEV), between 18-4 September.

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin gave information about the theme of this year's GastroAntep Festival, events, competitions and topics in her speech at the meeting held at the central MSM.

GASTROANTEP'S GOALS FOR THIS YEAR HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED

Şahin stated that this year, GastroAntep aims to increase the awareness of the food products, culinary culture and dishes of Gazi city and to include the flavors of Gaziantep cuisine on the menus of the world's most important restaurants and on the shelves of gourmet markets, while pointing out Gaziantep to the world in gastronomy tourism internationally. He noted that they aim to contribute to the city's economy by bringing together those who are interested in gastronomy and gastronomy in Gaziantep.

TOURISM POTENTIAL OF THE CITY IS TALKED

Explaining the sustainable agriculture projects of the Metropolitan Municipality, the gastronomy activities of Gaziantep, the festival content and the work carried out in the field of geographical indications, Şahin stated that gastronomy is economy, history and geography, and said that the foundation of gastronomy starts from the soil.

Emphasizing that they are in an area where soil and the economy coming from the soil are spoken, Şahin said:

“The earth is mother, it is help, it is humility, it is humility, abundance, healing. The title is 'Sustainable Gastronomy' this year. Because the world is going through a very difficult time. Each of us can make so many excuses, explain why we can't. We can wait for the conditions to be created for us to do it, but that doesn't suit us. Those who are strong in this geography need to be strong all the time by working harder, working on ideas, and seeing where we need to be physically. Our army, economy and industrialists must be strong. 2 million is entrusted to us. In order for migration to turn into power, we must say something else. The world is talking about sustainable development. We do not compete with neighboring cities. Now there is a regional destination, regional development. The geo-mark discussion of a product brings us down. Believe me, all the problems will be solved when we transform the abundance of Mesopotamia into economy and export.”

WE ARE THE MAIN VEIN OF MESOPOTAMIA, THE GATE OPENING TO THE HOT SEA

Providing information on water management and sustainable agriculture and giving examples from the world, Şahin continued his words as follows:

“We are the gateway to the Eastern Mediterranean. We should not underestimate ourselves. We are the main vein of Mesopotamia, its gateway to the warm seas. When marketing a business, we need to do it accordingly. Gastronomy is history. Even in our history, there is generosity and the table. This is a legacy left to us by İpekyolu. We will look at how we will protect our biodiversity and provide its infrastructure. The pandemic has shown us that wherever countries are weak, they have problems.”

WE WILL COME TO A NEW PERIOD WHERE FLAVOR TURNS INTO HEALING WITH ITS INHANNELS AND BATH

Referring to the content of the festival, President Şahin gave technical information and said, “Films will be screened at GastroAntep, workshops will be held, there will be workshops about biodiversity, children, artists. Regarding the area, it will expand to 50 thousand square meters next year. The current festival area planning will include concerts, a larger geographical indication tent, street delicacies. There are 2 important works we have completed. We are making a Cheese Workshop. We have a problem with promotion, packaging and experience. We are building a spice library and an ancestral seed bank by Alleben Pond. Next year we are running out of molasses and soap lady. When we achieve these, we will enter a new era in which taste turns into healing with its inns and baths.”

After the speech, questions were answered with members of the press and ideas were received.

GastoAntep, which has been listed as the first city to represent Turkey in the Creative Cities Network (UCCN) among 116 cities by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), promotes the cuisine of Gaziantep to the whole world; It will bring together world-renowned Michelin-starred chefs, gourmets, life coaches, dietitians, food producers, gastronomy students, agricultural producers, suppliers, academics and industry representatives.
