In the process of university preferences, which started on July 27, the final level was entered. According to the Higher Education Exam results announced on July 18, millions of students, who are expected to complete the selection process by August 5, are working to make the most accurate ranking for their careers. The Medical Faculties Investigation Report compiled from the data of the Higher Education Council serves as a guide for students who want to practice the profession of medicine.

After the YKS 18 (Higher Education Institutions Exam) results announced on July 2022, the period in which students will determine their university preferences started on July 27. While entering the final level in the selection process that will end on August 5, students and their families who are considering enrolling in medical faculties, which is one of the most preferred departments of successful students every semester in Turkey, continue their research to make the right choice.

Turkey Higher Education Council Data and Medical Faculties Review Report, prepared by ECONiX Research, which conducts research in the field of health, based on the data publicly published by the Council of Higher Education, serves as a guide for students in the preference period. The report, which examines the number of students placed in the medical faculty between 2019-2021, the quota of the faculties, the demographic structure and the information of the faculty members, aims to provide the necessary information for the candidates who are considering choosing a medical faculty this year and in the coming years.

Medical faculty quotas increased by 3 in the past 2.695 years

According to the report, which started with the examination of the quota of medical faculties providing education in English and Turkish, it is seen that the quota of medical faculties providing education in English increased by 2019 students between 2020-375 and 2020 students between 2021-303. In medical faculties providing education in Turkish, an increase in the quota of 1.503 and 514 students is detected, respectively, in the same periods. Looking at the general data, it is noted that the quota of all medical faculties in Turkey has increased by 3 students in total in the last 2.695 years.

Marmara and Hacettepe, the most preferred medical faculties of 2021

According to the report compiled from YÖK data, it is seen that Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, which has the title of being the most preferred English medical faculty in 2019 and 2020, lost this title to Marmara University in 2021. Hacettepe, Gazi, Koç, Marmara and Ankara Medipol are among the most preferred English medical faculties. Medical faculties teaching in Turkish stand out as Hacettepe University in 2020 and 2021. On the other hand, Atatürk, Bandırma 17 Eylül, Akdeniz, Aegean, Sivas Cumhuriyet, Health Sciences and Samsun University are among the top five universities in three years in the medical faculties offering Turkish education.

Anatolia – Marmara is the favorite of science high school graduates, and Hacettepe and Yeditepe are preferred in particular.

Findings obtained by ECONiX Research by examining YÖK data show that Anatolian high school graduates have been placed in Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in English and Health Sciences University in Turkish for three years. While Marmara University's place has not changed among the medical faculties that provide education in English for science high school graduates, it is seen that science high school graduates who want to study medicine in Turkish mostly prefer Ege University in 2019, Health Sciences University in 2020 and 2021. On the other hand, Hacettepe, Yeditepe, Marmara and Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Universities were the faculties of medicine providing English education most preferred by students who graduated from private high schools for the last 3 years, while Health Sciences University - Hamidiye, Ankara, Ege and Gazi Universities were preferred by private high school students in the same period. It stands out as the medical faculties that provide education in Turkish.

Koç University has the highest number of faculty members per student.

The report created by ECONiX also provides clues about the number of students per faculty member, which is directly reflected in the quality of teaching. Koç University reported the lowest number of students per faculty member in 2020 and 2021. Health Sciences University – Hamidiye, Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, Gaziantep University and Bursa Uludağ University stand out as the medical faculties with the highest number of students per faculty member during the last 3 years.

Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School graduates prefer medical faculties

Three-year data show that Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School leads the way in terms of the number of students who prefer state universities' medical faculties. Kabataş Boys' High School and Kadıköy Anatolian High School draws attention as two secondary education institutions that have placed medical faculties of private universities for the last 3 years. On the other hand, it is recorded that Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School and Ankara Science High School are the state with the highest number of placements in medical faculties in the last 3 years, and Private Nesibe Aydın Yıldızlar Temel High School and Private Tekden Science High School are the private high schools with the most placements in medical faculties.

Compared to the population, the most doctor candidates came from Adana and Diyarbakır.

According to the report, which also includes demographic data, the ratios obtained by dividing the number of students placed in the medical faculty by the population of the province reveal that Adana was the province with the highest rate of students placed in the medical faculty in 2019 and 2020, and Diyarbakır took the record in 2021. On the other hand, Konya, Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul are also among the top cities in terms of this ratio. In addition, it is seen that female students prefer medical schools more than male students between 2019-2020, and it is stated that this rate is almost equal by 2021.
