President Soyer: This story is not destiny, it is possible to change

President at the opening ceremony Tunç SoyerHe noted that İzmir draws attention not only with its nature and sea, but also with its social climate where tolerant, tolerant and friendly people live. Stating that while Athens receives 6 million tourists and Barcelona receives 12 million tourists annually, Soyer said that İzmir receives 1 million tourists and said, “All the ingredients for making halva are the best. Why can't we? A lot of things come to mind when you think about it. Do we not give confidence as a country? I wonder if our infrastructure is insufficient, the number of hotels or the number of beds is insufficient? I wonder if we can't get together with marketing companies within the framework of a good enough agreement? There could be many reasons… This story is not destiny and it is possible to change that.”

“Needs to be brought to light”

Explaining their efforts to increase the tourism potential of the city, Mayor Soyer noted that they have prepared the Tourism Strategic Plan, implemented Visitİzmir, and are working to include four regions on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Soyer said: “We thought that in order to develop not only quantitative but also qualified tourism, we must first describe what we have and what we dwell on. Not only as Izmir, but as the whole of Turkey, we live in these lands like a fish that does not know the sea but is in the sea. This needs to be brought to light. We first try to bring to light what we have, then we make an effort to make it known internationally. It doesn't matter how rich a city has, if it doesn't break its shell and meet the world. What is missing is that we can't move forward despite seeing all this? Both empirical and scientific knowledge are needed. We have to exchange information with each other. We have to be aware of what we are going through. The second is scientific knowledge. You cannot maintain the tourism industry with the methods inherited from your grandfather. Even if you know what riches you have, if you only continue the tourism service with ancestral methods, you will not be able to move forward, you will not be able to move forward. In order to make this whole story, it is necessary to be in solidarity. We are lucky in Izmir. We are able to work in harmony with our ministry, governorship and sector representatives. We are very excited.”

Let's take advantage of information technologies

Hulusi Doğan, Deputy Governor of İzmir, said, “It is a very good organization. Izmir has many advantages. Why does Izmir still have 1 million tourists? It is not due to lack of information, but due to lack of information. Tourism is very different, very fragile. Information technology should be used. Everyone from the young to the old, from the villager to the city, is using digital technology. This work is truly excellent. I would like to thank you for your contribution to İzmir and you for İzmir. Izmir is a world city," he said.

Digitalization is important in tourism

Mine Güneş Kaya, Chairman of the Board of IFITT Turkey, said, “Izmir is really a big family for me. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerIt has had great support. We thank all those who contributed,” he said.

Emre Kızılgüneşler, Vice Chairman of İzmir Chamber of Commerce, said, “We are witnessing an important day in the history of our country and İzmir. Those living, working and investing in İzmir also hope that our city's share in international tourism will increase. Digitalization in tourism is essential for the human-oriented development of new professions.”
