Early Detection System to Prevent Forest Fires KOZALAK Implemented

Enerjisa Enerji aims to detect fires in forest lands early with KOZALAK, the forest fire early detection system, which is one of the initiatives it supports. Enerjisa Enerji, Turkey's leading electricity distribution and retail sales company, 20 percent of which is publicly traded and whose main shareholders are Sabancı Holding and E. ON SE, is its sponsor in the Big Bang Start-up Challenge event, which is determined by the best of the startups that apply to İTÜ Çekirdek. started to use the "KOZALAK" Fire Early Detection System, which is one of the initiatives it has undertaken, for the early detection of forest fires in the Aegean Region for the first time. Thanks to the early warning system, early detection and warning in forest fires, toxic, flammable and explosive gas detection can be made by measuring the air quality. Thus, fires that cause great destruction in forests will be prevented from spreading to large areas by early intervention.

The project named “KOZALAK”, which is among the top three projects of 2021 in the Big Bang Start-up Challenge event, which is supported by ITU Çekirdek and the best of the initiatives are determined every year, is starting to be implemented with the support of Enerjisa Energy. The system, which was first implemented in the Bodrum region, which is within the borders of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry, aims to protect an area of tens of thousands of square meters from possible fires. The system is insured by Aksigorta against the possibility of damage to the system in the event of a possible fire.

The system, which is applied in forest areas without causing any damage to the trees, has a battery life of up to 5 years and can also be charged with renewable energy sources. The system, which does not require any infrastructure work, can be easily installed in the targeted area. Thanks to the long-range mesh network technology, it is possible to communicate up to 15 km between modules. At the same time, the data coming from the devices are instantly displayed on the web, and information flow is instantly provided to the relevant authorities.

Providing information about the KOZALAK project, Enerjisa Enerji CEO Murat Pınar said: “Climate change and environmental pollution are among the most important issues that the world has dealt with on a global scale for the first time. As a domino effect created by all these, our forest fires, which we have unfortunately followed with great sadness in recent years, constantly remind us that serious and long-term steps should be taken in this regard. The losses we suffered all over our country due to the fires that lasted for days last year, and examples such as the fires that affected America and Europe reveal that new generation action plans should be implemented in this regard. The energy sector, on the other hand, is one of the biggest actors of the climate crisis in terms of its carbon footprint. As Enerjisa Enerji, we are aware of the fact that we play a decisive role in the fight against the climate crisis and we carry out our work with this sensitivity.

Thanks to KOZALAK, an initiative we support in the light of our impact-oriented business model for our world and society, which we accept as the roadmap of our sustainability approach, we are implementing the fire early prevention system in a large area with fire risk in Muğla. Thanks to the system, a possible fire situation can be detected early and quickly intervened. It is at the top of our dreams to protect our most valuable heritage by bringing the Cone system, which will be implemented in the Muğla region first, with our forests in every corner of our country. As Enerjisa, we will continue to support our work both with our business models and with our volunteer colleagues on climate change, which our country and the world care about. I would like to thank the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, who supported us in the realization of our project and stood by us in the field.”
