China's Hainan Province to Ban Fossil Fuel Vehicles by 2030

The island province of Hainan in southern China has announced that by 2030, all fossil fuel-powered vehicles will be banned from use in the province. According to the plan announced by the state government at the beginning of the week regarding carbon dioxide emissions, all new and refurbished vehicles in public and commercial service in Hainan will use clean energy by 2025, and the sale of vehicles running on fuel/petrol will be banned until 2030. The plan will make Hainan the first Chinese province to ban the sale of gasoline vehicles.

Under the same plan, the Hainan administration will apply a reduced tax for new-energy vehicles when purchasing vehicles, and continue the policy of encouraging different types of vehicles in the province to use clean energy. This plan will be implemented within the framework of the country's goals to exceed the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 and reach the carbon neutral stage before 2060.
