China Calls on Developing Countries to Help Fight Terrorism

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Zhang Jun, called on developing countries to provide assistance, especially African countries, to improve their counterterrorism capabilities.

Under the chairmanship of Chinese representative Zhang Jun, a meeting on "Terror Acts Threatening International Peace and Security" was held yesterday at the UN Security Council regarding the current global counter-terrorism situation.

Zhang Jun said that UN counterterrorism agencies, such as the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee, should focus their work and resources on improving their counterterrorism capabilities, and that developing countries should increase their counterterrorism capabilities at three levels: legislative, executive and judicial.

Zhang Jun stressed that China will continue to actively help countries such as Africa and Central Asia to strengthen their counter-terrorism capacity, contribute to effectively responding to terrorist threats and maintaining regional peace and security.
