Seven-Month Revenue of China Telecom Sector Exceeds $137 Billion

The Chinese telecommunications industry has grown steadily over the first seven months of the year. The industry's combined revenue reached 8,3 billion yuan (about $944,2 billion), up 137,87 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Rising branches such as big data, cloud computing, internet data centers and the internet of things have developed rapidly during the said period. In this context, the revenues of the country's three telecom giants, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, in these rising branches increased by 35,1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 184,3 billion yuan.

When a detailed examination is made, it is seen that while the revenues of cloud computing services jumped by 131,7 percent compared to a year ago, service revenues related to big data and the internet of things grew by 60,3 percent and 25,9 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, there was a steady progress in the construction activities of 5G base stations during the said period. As a matter of fact, as of the end of July this year, the total number of 5G base stations in China reached almost 1,97 million.
