Operation on Illegal Cigarette Manufacturers in Izmir

During the operations carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce in İzmir, thousands of macarons, cigarette filling machines and illegal tobacco, which are important raw materials of illegal cigarette production, were seized.

As a result of the field research and intelligence studies carried out by the Izmir Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams, it was determined that some addresses in Izmir were used as production sites and warehouses by illegal cigarette manufacturers.

All information about the addresses in question was collected and permission was obtained from the prosecutor's office for the operation. A simultaneous raid was carried out on 1 workplace, 1 warehouse and 1 house determined as suspicious. During the search carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams at the addresses in question, 19 empty macarons, 600 packs of filled cigarettes, 730 cigarette filling machines, 3 compressors, 2 kilograms of contraband tobacco and 410 packs of hookah tobacco were seized.

Thousands of macarons and tobacco seized as a result of the successful operation of the Customs Enforcement teams were prevented from being used in the production of illegal cigarettes and being placed on the market illegally.

While the products seized in the operation and used in the production of illegal cigarettes were confiscated, 1 suspect was arrested and sent to prison.
