Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Construction Continues as Planned

The implementation of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), Turkey's first nuclear power plant, continues at its usual pace. Construction and installation works continue uninterruptedly in all parts of the main and auxiliary facilities such as the four power units, as well as coastal hydrotechnical structures, power distribution systems, administrative buildings, training-practice center and physical protection facilities of the nuclear power plant.

Important construction and assembly operations are carried out in accordance with the schedule. In August, the installation of the turbine condenser of the 1st power unit started. On 14 August, a pole crane, one of the most important mechanisms of the reactor compartment, was installed in the reactor building of the 1st power unit. Recently, a new production workshop for the production of air ducts has been put into service at the Akkuyu NPP site. In the reactor compartment of the 2nd power unit, preparations continue for the assembly of the reactor shaft lining.

Meanwhile, the program for the training of management personnel of Akkuyu NPP is also actively implemented. Five Turkish citizens who graduated from the program successfully completed all of the theoretical and practical training courses for the "Reactor Operation Chief Specialist" position this year and proved their high level of knowledge and skills according to the results of the tests. Turkish experts will take part in the management of the reactor on an equal basis with their Russian colleagues after the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP is commissioned.

The allegations published in the media and social networks that AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. has made a mass dismissal or given mandatory leave to its employees do not reflect the truth. These allegations are made by anonymous sources in order to discredit the Akkuyu NPP project. Company personnel and sub-contractors, who re-signed contracts for construction and installation works with TSM Energy, the new main contractor of Akkuyu NPP, continue to fulfill their professional duties for Turkey's first nuclear power plant and contribute to the realization of the construction project.
