600-Year-Old Historical Bridge in Dilovası is Restored

Within the scope of historical revival studies in Dilovası; The stone bridge with 16 arches and 3 meters long, built by Mimar Sinan in the 65th century, is being restored.

Along with the restoration of the stone bridge over Dilderesi, work is also being carried out on the creek bed. While a part of the bridge was demolished and rebuilt in accordance with the original, it was also seen that new stones were used during the works.

The stone bridge on the Istanbul-Baghdad road, the most important main road of the Ottoman Empire to the East, was closed to vehicle traffic in previous years.

DILOVASI'S ICON

Dilovası Mayor Hamza Şayir, who examined the restoration works started in the past days, said, “Dilovası has an important place in terms of history and culture, and our Historical Mimar Sinan Bridge, which is sandwiched between industry, has a history of 600 years. It is almost the symbol of Dilovası. It was built by Mimar Sinan by Suleiman the Magnificent. The 65 m long stone bridge has three arches. They have draining eyes in the middle of their feet. The fact that the bridge was passed down to our time without any maintenance and repair reveals how solid the bridge was.

IT WILL BE FINISHED BY THE END OF THE YEAR

As Dilovası Municipality, we have made attempts to preserve this historical building as soon as possible and restore it to its former state. After our meetings with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we started the restoration works together with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Regional Directorate and the General Directorate of Highways. Our bridge, which will be brought back to Dilovası in accordance with its original form, will be finished by the end of the year.”
