MG Expands Its Electric Vehicle Range With The New MG4 Model

The MG brand, of which Doğan Trend Automotive is the Turkey distributor, is preparing to break new ground in the all-electric hatchback class with the new MG4 Electric model.

The automobile brand MG (Morris Garages), founded in England in 1924, steps into the C-segment with the MG4 Electric, which rises on the specially developed MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) platform. With a length of 4.287 mm, a width of 1.836 mm and a height of 1.504 mm, the five-door MG4 was designed exclusively as all-electric. While maintaining its stylish and sporty body proportions, the MG4 Electric offers a comfortable and spacious cabin with enough space for a family of five. It also enables performance driving with its 50:50 balanced weight distribution, better handling, rear-wheel drive and fast steering responses.

Thanks to its extremely thin battery system, the MG4 Electric, which is very close to the ground, has a slim battery pack developed by SAIC Motor. The MG110 Electric, which has the thinnest battery in its class with a height of only 4 mm, will be offered for sale with 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery options. These batteries offer an electric driving range of 350 km or 450 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Many different versions are planned for the MG4 Electric, including all-wheel drive. Two different electromotors operate with a battery with a capacity of 64 kWh of 150 kW and a battery of 51 kWh of 125 kW. MG4 Electric completes 0-100 km/h acceleration in less than 8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The first MG model to hit the roads in Europe with the new platform

The MG4 Electric is currently undergoing an endurance test of 120.000 kilometers under various conditions in Europe. The MG4 Electric also stands out as the first MG model to hit the roads in Europe with the MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) technology developed specifically for electric MG models. The smart, modular design system offers many advantages in terms of architecture, flexibility, space utilization, safety, superior driving characteristics, weight savings and advanced technologies. Its scalable design with wheelbases ranging from 2.650 to 3.100 mm allows different body types to be designed on the same platform, from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and VANs. The Modular Scalable Platform therefore plays an important role in MG's global growth strategy.

“ONE PACK” magic battery system

The innovative battery design called “ONE PACK” used in the MG4 model makes it possible to only 110 mm height with its horizontal battery arrangement. Thanks to this special technology, the most efficient battery volume of the automotive industry is obtained. With the renewed cooling system design, the three most important advantages offered by the “ONE PACK” system: ultra-high integration, ultra-long life and zero thermal runaway.

In the “ONE PACK” system, which will revolutionize the electric car world, battery capacities ranging from 40 kWh to 150 kWh can be easily reached in theory, and it offers flexible and various options to users by meeting the energy requirements of A0 – D class models. The most valuable feature that this technology offers is that users can first purchase a small battery and replace the battery for a longer range if they need it in the future.

The new MG4 Electric with the “ONE PACK” battery design; interior space allows significant gains in terms of weight and safety. Thanks to these features, the MG4 Electric offers more interior space in the same exterior dimensions. Thanks to the engineers' success in reducing the vehicle weight significantly, significant gains are achieved in terms of efficiency and handling characteristics.

Ready for advanced technologies

Thanks to MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) and “ONE PACK” battery systems, the development of electric car technology will gain great momentum. This technology, which will enable much faster charging times, will also enable electric motors to support BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery replacement systems in the future. With its integrated service-oriented architecture (SOA-Service Oriented Architecture), cars will be able to be updated over the air (OTA-On the Air) throughout their lifetime. The platform is also specially equipped for Pixel Point Cloud Comprehensive Environment Mapping (PP CEM), which is required for advanced autonomous driving solutions.
