Historical Texture Will Meet Modern Infrastructure in Kemeraltı

Mayor Soyer said that with this project, they will turn Kemeraltı, the apple of the eye of the city, into the world's largest open-air shopping center and put it on the world showcase.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will sign a historical investment in Kemeraltı in line with its goal of reviving the historical axis between Konak and Kadifekale and increasing the attractiveness of the region. Within the scope of the works that will start this week, infrastructure, superstructure and lighting works will be carried out in an area of ​​approximately 500 thousand square meters between Fevzi Paşa Boulevard-Eşrefpaşa Street-Halil Rıfat Paşa Avenue and Konak Atatürk Square in Kemeraltı. The infrastructure of the region will be completely renewed and floods that occur during excessive precipitation will be prevented. The historical texture and original structure of the region will be brought to light with the arrangement works to be carried out from the top cover to the green area designs.

Kemeraltı will be a center of attraction for domestic and foreign tourists with its infrastructure and appearance.

Main arteries and streets will be completely renewed

The first phase of the works will start on July 21, 2022 (Thursday night) at Veysel Dead End. In this street, the existing parquet and asphalt will be removed first. Drinking water and canal lines will be manufactured again, energy and communication lines will be renewed and taken underground. Necessary reinforcements will be made on the ground and the top coating will be replaced with granite stone. Lighting systems will be placed on the streets for a living and safe Kemeraltı at night. Streets will have a more aesthetic appearance with urban furniture. In order not to disrupt the daily functioning of the historical Kemeraltı Bazaar, the works on the streets will be carried out one by one and work will be done at night.
