8. Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge is waiting to be opened and handed over to Bangladesh administration. The 2,96 km bridge was built by China Railway 17th Bureau Group Limited in a joint venture of China Railway Great Bridge Survey and Design Institute Limited and China Railway Wuhan Bridge Engineering Consulting Supervision Limited. With the donation of China, 7 friendship bridges were built across Bangladesh.
The 8th bridge was built over the Kocha River in the Pirojpur district, 185 km southwest of Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka. Obaidul Quader, Bangladesh's Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, told reporters that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate this much-anticipated bridge in September. Officials noted that the bridge will play an important role in accelerating the transport of people and the flow of goods in the Barisal and Khulna regions in southern Bangladesh.
