The spices of thousands of dishes cooked on world tables are sent by Aegean exporters. In the first half of 2022, while Turkey exported 105,7 million dollars of spices, exporters who are members of the Aegean Exporters' Association realized the majority of this export, 67 million dollars. While the use of spices by taste lovers in food is increasing day by day, spice exports from the Aegean Region increased from 2022 million dollars to 3 million 64,8 thousand dollars in the January-June period of 67, with an increase of 58 percent compared to the same time period of the previous year. Exporting dozens of spices from thyme to black cumin, from laurel to sumac, from cumin to anise, from linden to sage in 2022, members of Aegean Exporters' Associations continued to flavor the dishes cooked in world cuisines. Informing that Turkey's spice exports in the first half of 2022 are 105 million 778 thousand dollars, Ege Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters' Association Vice Chairman Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu stated that 64 percent of this export is made by exporters who are members of Aegean Exporters' Associations. We aim to export 1 billion dollars in the spice industry, explaining that the Aegean Exporters' Association has been carrying out the TURQUALITY Project for 4 years in order to increase the awareness and export of Turkish food products in the US market, Tarakçıoğlu said, “One of the most important pillars of this project was the promotion of Turkish spices. We intensified our promotions in the western regions, where the use of spices is more common in the USA. Our aim is to make production that is sensitive to the environment, by fulfilling the traceability and sustainability conditions in our production, and to implement projects that will inform our producers in this direction. To regularly increase the export of Turkish spices produced on the basis of traceability and sustainability. To increase our spice export, which is currently in the range of 200-250 million dollars per year, to the level of 1 billion dollars”. Spices exporters under the umbrella of Aegean Exporters' Associations are under the umbrella of Aegean Furniture Paper and Forest Products Exporters' Association and Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds Exporters' Association. Expressing that they will host the European Spice Union General Assembly in Bodrum on October 250-5, 8 as two exporters' associations under the roof of EIB, 2022 European spice producers will meet in Bodrum, Ege Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters' Association President Muhammet Öztürk said, “European Spices Union We will be hosting the General Assembly of Turkey after 12 years. We will host 250 business people who shape the spice industry in Europe in Turkey. We believe that the business relations to be established in this organization will contribute to the increase in our export figures.” Emphasizing that the leading products in Turkey's spice exports are thyme and laurel, Öztürk concluded his words as follows: “While we obtained 31 million dollars from thyme exports and 24,5 million dollars from our bay leaf exports, we obtained 5,1 million dollars of sage and 4,8 million dollars of foreign currency. We exported cumin, 3,5 million dollars of rosemary, 2,5 million dollars of sumac, 2,3 million dollars of licorice root, 1,5 million dollars of anise, 1,1 million dollars of black cumin.” While spices were exported to 2022 countries from Turkey in the January-June period of 144, the first three countries were the United States, Germany and China. While spice exports to the USA were 13 million 370 thousand dollars, Germany demanded 11 million 634 thousand dollars from Turkey.
