Research was carried out in four neighborhoods in Kadifekale. In June, 2 thousand 196 seedlings were planted, including tomato, pepper, eggplant, okra, cucumber and zucchini. 54 female producers in 51 plots were involved in planting and planting activities. Producer women also bought their first products.

Berkay Aslanbey, the field research staff of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Emergency Solution Team, stated that they wandered around the four neighborhoods around Kadifekale from street to street and explained the project and met with the people of the region on a common ground. Aslanbey said, “There was a very high demand. For a fair parcel distribution, lots were drawn, each citizen determined his own parcel. After the draw, we planted seedlings with the staff of the Department of Agricultural Services and the Department of Social Projects and the Emergency Solution Team. We explained how to produce. Citizens are now happily waiting to buy their products,” he said.

“We reproduce life”

Ferhan Uzun, from Kadifekale Lens Project, said that they made the garden area in a collaborative way and said, “We are growing the knowledge of the citizens and the Metropolitan together in solidarity. We think we are reproducing life here," he said. Ferhan Uzun explained how they got involved in the project as follows: “One day, there was a knock on our door. They said they are considering making a garden and they got our idea. We are very happy. It's a beautiful project. We are very old in the neighbourhood. We have been here since my father's grandmother. Since our childhood, we have heard that these lands are very fertile. Now I can say that I am very happy as a child. Living in the city means being away from the land. We are among the concrete. Of course, the importance of soil is now better understood. From tomatoes to peppers, from eggplant to okra… Our first products are out, I am incredibly happy.”

“We eat products that we grow ourselves”

Emir Akan, who works in the garden with his parents, said, “I will say to my teachers, 'They built a garden for the castle, I'm going there, it's so fun'. I am very happy to deal with the land,” he said. Yaren Kayaer said that she had been going to the garden for a month and a half and said, “I used to sit at home and get bored. Here we deal with the soil, we relax. We eat products that we grow ourselves. The products have no medicated taste, they smell natural. We taste when we eat. I'm also having a lot of fun. Emphasizing that she had a lot of fun in the garden, Ecrin Akıncı said, “We produce vegetables such as pepper and eggplant. I can't wait to collect the products with my friend.
