CRRC's First Metro Train for Porto Metro Project is Ready for Tests

Developed by CRRC Tangshan Limited Company, one of China's leading manufacturers of high-speed trains, the first subway train rolled off the production line on Tuesday.

The train will be tested in Tangshan city in northern China's Hebei province. The company noted that the train will be exported to the Portuguese city of Porto and will be involved in a metro project there. According to the agreement signed in January 2020, the company will produce 72 metro trains with a total of 18 cars for a local metro company in Porto and provide five years of maintenance service. According to the manufacturer's statement, the metro trains with a maximum passenger capacity of 334 people and a maximum speed of 80 km per hour will feature lightweight design, low energy consumption, low noise and smart operation.

Zhou Junnian, chairman of the board of CRRC Tangshan, said that since the project started in November 2021, the company has overcome the negative impact brought by Covid-19, addressing the differences in technical standards and cultures brought by the high-level European project. Zhou Junnian conducted his first review with the company via video in Porto. Zhou added that after more than eight months of efforts, the production of the first train was completed to a high standard and with strict quality control measures.
