Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that in the first half of this year, the amount of cargo handled at the ports increased by 6,6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 273 million 479 thousand tons, while the amount of containers handled in the same period increased by 2,7 percent to 6 million 387 thousand TEUs. .

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the maritime data. Noting that investments continue in the maritime sector, as in all areas of transportation, Karaismailoğlu noted that maritime transportation is the backbone of global trade. Reminding that the Transportation 2053 Gulf Logistics Workshop was organized first and then the 2nd Maritime Summit, Karaismailoğlu emphasized that the future of the maritime industry was discussed in all its details.

Expressing that Turkey also took its share from the increasing maritime trade, Karaismailoğlu said, “The amount of cargo handled at our ports in the January-June period increased by 6,6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 273 million 479 thousand tons. In June of this year, the amount of cargo handled at our ports increased by 3,7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 45 million 245 thousand tons. In June, the amount of loading for export purposes at our ports decreased by 4,3 percent to 12 million 900 thousand tons. The amount of unloading for import purposes increased by 9,6 percent to 19 million 955 thousand tons. In June, foreign trade shipments increased by 3,7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 32 million 855 thousand tons.

MOST CARGO HANDLING HAS BEEN ACHIEVED AT KOCAELİ REGIONAL PORT MANAGEMENT

Expressing that the transit cargo transports by sea at the ports increased by 1 percent to 6 million 317 thousand tons, Karaismailoğlu pointed out that the amount of cargo carried in cabotage increased by 6 percent with 72 million 6,7 thousand tons in June. Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “The highest cargo handling was 6 million 980 thousand tons at the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Kocaeli Regional Port Authority. Kocaeli Regional Port Authority; Aliağa Regional Port Authority and Ceyhan Regional Port Authority followed suit. 4 million 529 thousand tons of 20 containers were handled in our ports. 20-pack full container handling was the type of cargo that increased the most, with a 10,2 percent increase. While Portland Cement was the most exported cargo type by sea, it was determined that the most imported cargo type was crude oil. The highest amount of cargo handling in exports was realized in the transportation to America with 1 million 628 thousand tons. America; Italy and Spain followed suit. Russia took the first place in imports," he said.

THE MOST CONTAINER HANDLING WAS HELD AT AMBARLI REGIONAL PORT MANAGEMENT

Providing information about the amount of containers handled, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu stated that the amount of containers handled in the January-June period increased by 2,7 percent compared to the period of the previous year and reached 6 million 387 thousand TEUs. Karaismailoğlu said, “The amount of containers handled at our ports in June increased by 0,3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1 million 61 thousand TEUs” and continued his statement as follows;

“The amount of tradeable containers handled in June increased by 4,4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 829 thousand 92 TEUs. Container shipments for export purposes increased by 1,7 percent to 407 thousand 587 TEUs, while container unloading for import purposes increased by 7,2 percent to 421 thousand 505 TEUs. It was determined that the amount of transit containers handled decreased by 16,2 percent to 158 thousand 177 TEU. In the same month, the amount of containers handled in cabotage decreased by 2,4 percent to 74 thousand 529 TEUs. In June, a total of 226 TEU container handling was carried out at the port facilities operating within the administrative borders of Ambarlı Regional Port Authority. Mersin and Kocaeli Regional Port Authority followed Ambarlı Regional Port Authority. The most container handling took place in the shipments made with Egypt.”
