Aiming to end foreign dependency with domestic seeds, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) gave free local wheat, corn, barley and sunflower seeds to farmers in Silivri, Çatalca and Beykoz 8 months ago.
Wheat, corn, barley and sunflowers planted on an area of 557 decares in Silivri, Çatalca and Beykoz were harvested. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu"We are happy to have given an example of successful agricultural production that will save our country from foreign dependency," he said.

As a result of the trial plantings carried out on an area of 557 acres, it was seen that the products were much more resistant to diseases and harmful animals. In July, the harvest season came and very productive results emerged.
It will save the seed from foreign dependency

We are happy to have given a successful example of agricultural production, which will save our country from foreign dependency, as IMM.”
Ahmet Atalık, Head of Agricultural Services Department of IMM, also drew attention to the importance of producing with local seeds in Istanbul and said, "Growing the products with the highest yield in our own fields means both our country's freedom from foreign dependency and our food independence."
Farmers are also very happy
Expressing that they are pleased that the harvest made from local seeds is very luxurious, the farmers said that the seeds are much better than the previous ones, and the result is above the Turkey average. Underlining that they will especially recommend the local seeds distributed by IMM to other farmers, the producers said:
“What we see is this; there were some really great varieties of breeders that were really well above average yields. We'll recommend it to everyone so we don't get pregnant, we plant our own.”
Other farmers who came to see the harvest stated that they saw the quality and yield and now they are considering planting from these seeds.
How much was planted?
Wheat: Trial sowing of 202 different types of wheat was carried out in 6 different trial areas with a size of 8 decares.
Barley: 40 different types of barley were planted in 2 decares, in 5 different trial areas.
Silage Corn: Trial sowing of 65 types of silage maize was carried out in 2 decares of land, in 5 different trial areas.
Oil Sunflower: Trial planting of 250 types of oil sunflowers was carried out in 7 different experimental areas with a size of 4 decares.
