Ayvalık Takes Firm Steps On The Road To UNESCO World Heritage Candidacy

The panel series continues in Ayvalık, which is taking firm steps towards UNESCO World Heritage candidacy. After the three panels held so far, the fourth one will be held on Friday, July 29 at 15.00 at the Nejat Uygur Stage of Vural Cinema. As a speaker for the fourth panel titled "UNESCO World Heritage Bursa: Evaluation of the Process and Future Expectations", Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoglu will attend.

Ayvalık was registered in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2015 under the name “Ayvalık Industrial Landscape”, following the process that started in 2017 by organizing quest meetings and workshops. Work on the application file prepared for Ayvalık to be included in the list continues uninterruptedly. In this context, a one-year process has been completed in the works initiated by the UNESCO World Heritage and Site Management Unit in May 2021. From now on, the process carried out with the “Local Talks” series; panels, workshops and symposiums will be organized.

In this context, in the fourth panel, the entity, which was registered as “Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Birth of the Ottoman Empire” on the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 22, 2014 by Bursa Site President Prof. Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu; Topics such as the world heritage and site management studies carried out in the office established within the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, the nomination process, the 38th World Heritage Committee meeting, the expectations before and the actions that took place after it will be shared from the perspective of a site president,
