With four new highways opened this week in China's Xinjiang Autonomous Uyghur Region, the total length of highways in the region has exceeded 10 kilometers, the region's transportation agency reported. The last newly built and commissioned highways are in the provinces of Hotan, Aksu, Bayingolin and Hui.
The opening of highways in the first three of these locations is of particular importance in terms of supporting the investment climate, furthering the development drive in the south of Xinjiang, and facilitating transportation in the Tarim basin. Xinjiang anticipates an investment of 80 billion yuan (about $11,9 billion) as fixed capital for road transportation this year. Fixed capital investment in the region for road transportation in 2021 reached 69,05 billion yuan.
