According to the foresight report released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China is expected to have nine of the world's 20 largest container ports by the end of this year.

Among the top 20 ports in the world, Shanghai Port will have the highest throughput capacity in 2022, according to the forecast reported by China Science Daily. The same source reports that the majority of Chinese container ports are facing an ever-increasing demand for shipping services, including the ports of Ningbo-Zhoushan, Qingdao and Tianjin.

In fact, the amount shipped in containers depends on many factors. Wang Shouyang, director of the CAS institution that published the report, states that researchers working with regression analyzes and econometric models consider global ports as an integrated system, taking into account the global economy and the global trade situation and the development of the shipping industry.

On the other hand, Xie Gang, one of the CAS professors, emphasized that although the global container shipping industry has slowed down in 2022, China's container shipping activity continues to function as a cornerstone of global development.
