Breaking records is fun. Especially when it comes to building the tallest, widest, longest and largest superyachts in the world. Each of these superlatives technically has its own kind when it comes to shipbuilding. Number two of this list is technically smaller and longer than the first. And one of the yachts on this list is both the oldest and largest on the planet. It can be confusing, but this is important when boating for people who want to set a world record. We researched the longest yacht for you…
Can you imagine seeing a superyacht? Rethink your place. The ten largest yachts in the world for 2021 are listed below. It's hard to tell the difference between a cruise ship and a superyacht when they go this high. As you can see below, the German shipyard Lürssen built most of the top 10 yachts and dominated the list.
10. SAILING YACHT A – 142 meters (2017 model)
In the future, SAILING YACHT A will be the world's first private sailing motor yacht. Nobiskrug was manufactured in 2017. A state-of-the-art superyacht with features such as an underwater observation pod, hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and cutting-edge navigation.
The three masts of the luxury sailing yacht are the world's largest and most heavily loaded freestanding composite structures. The almost invisible windows give this yacht a futuristic look while providing no glimpse of the interior, which remains a mystery. Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko is the owner of SAILING YACHT A.
9. EL MAHROSA – 145 meters (1865 model)
Built in 1865, this 145-metre Samuda Brothers yacht, EL MAHROUSA, ranks first in history and records. This yacht was designed for the Ottoman governor of Egypt and appeared at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869.
Necessarily, it has undergone several upgrades over the years, including the replacement of the paddle motors with turbine driven propellers in 1905. A telegram was also made in 1912. In 1872 EL MAHROUSA was extended by 40 feet and again in 1905 by 17 feet. The yacht is originally in the maintenance of the Egyptian Navy and is occasionally used as a Presidential Yacht. It is the world's oldest operating superyacht and the ninth tallest superyacht.
8. PRINCE ABDULAZIZ – 147 meters (1984 model)
The 147-metre PRINCE ABDULAZIZ motor yacht was designed by Helsingor Vaerft and delivered in 1984. For many years it was the largest yacht in the world in terms of length and height. It is one of the royal yachts of the Saudi royal family and was originally owned by King Fahd. There is no photo of the interior, although it was designed by the last David Nightingale Hicks. But we know it can be as luxurious as the TITANIC.
7. A Plus – 147 meters (2012 model)
A+ (formerly TOPAZ) is the seventh largest yacht in the world with a length of 147 metres. With a gross tonnage of 12.532 GT, A Plus is one of the largest superyachts in the world by volume. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, owner of Manchester City Football Club and the Emirati monarchy, is said to have owned this Lürssen superyacht from 2012.
This eight-deck yacht has two helipads, a spa, two jacuzzis, a cinema and a meeting center. Although little is known about the Terence Disdale design interior, the A+26 can hold 62 crew members in addition to 79 passengers in the cabin.
6. AL SAID – 155 meters (2007 model)
AL SAID is the world's sixth largest mega yacht with a length of 508 feet. Its manufacture was started by Lürssen in 2007 and it was designed to look like a classic cruise ship. The ship is approximately 79 feet long at its widest point. It is operated by the Sultan of Oman and has a capacity of 70 passengers and a trained crew of 154. The ship has six decks and a concert hall that can accommodate a 50-member orchestra.
5. DILBAR – 156 Mt (2016 model)
Lürssen launched the 156-metre DILBAR superyacht in 2016. Espen Øino modeled its exterior, which has a classic profile with a soft ivory body. Winch Design is said to have furnished its interior with unique and exclusive luxury fabrics, but no other details or photos have been released.
According to Lürssen, DILBAR is one of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, with a displacement of 15.917 tons and a length of 156 meters. Features include a 25-metre swimming pool (the largest ever built on a yacht) and two helipads. Alisher Usmanov, one of the richest citizens of Russia, is the owner of this mega yacht.
4. DUBAI – 162 meters (2006 model)
Make room for DUBAI, a 161-metre yacht with a non-linear construction history. Blohm + Voss and Lürssen collaborated on the design of this superyacht in 1998. However, the bid was suspended due to a skeletal superstructure.
The hull was sold to the Dubai government and the project was restarted under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Dubai ruler) and Platinum Yachts. The yacht was completed in 2006. Seven decks, helipad, submarine garage, nightclub, theater and 70-foot-wide atrium are just some of the highlights. DUBAI has a capacity of 24 people.
3. ECLIPSE – 162 meters (2010 model)
ECLIPSE was the world's largest superyacht when it split from the German shipyard Blohm + Voss in 2010. It is now 162 meters long and has been pushed down several rows. Roman Abramovich, a Russian businessman, owns this yacht. ECLIPSE has 18 cabins and can accommodate a total of 36 people.
The yacht had the largest swimming pool (with adjustable depth to be a dance floor) at 16 metres. A missile warning system, bulletproof windows, a submarine, three helicopters, six tenders, a pool, gym and beach club are just some of the fascinating features of this luxury yacht. It is reportedly priced at $1,2 billion and is the most luxurious yacht in the world.
2. FULK AL SALAMAH – 164 meters (2016 model)
The 164-metre Mariotti super yacht FULK AL SALAMAH, which means “Peace Ship”, was built in 2016. One yacht is thought to be owned by the Omani royal family. It's not the longest yacht, but it's the largest in length, with a gross tonnage of 22.000 tons. Studio de Jorio designed the exterior, which looks more like a cruise ship than a private superyacht. FULK AL SALAMAH is a project that has been kept secret since its inception, but little known about it.
1. AZZAM – 180 meters (2013 model)
AZZAM is the longest private yacht in the world with a length of 180 meters. Owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, the mega yacht was built by Lürssen Yachts in 2013. It was built at a cost of more than $600 million.
AZZAM has a width of 20,8 meters (68 feet) and an unusually shallow (14 feet) depth of 4,3 meters. Nauta Design created the exterior of this ship to be aerodynamic while being smaller than it was. Over long distances, 9.000 kW MTU engines propel it at 18 knots, with a top speed of 33 knots.
The longest private yacht in the world, AZZAM can accommodate 36 guests and up to 80 crew. The interior design is a closely guarded secret, but some of the wooden furniture on board is said to be intricately covered with mother-of-pearl inlay. A spa, pool and golf simulator area are among other facilities on board.
