İlhan İrem was bid farewell to his last journey with 'Light and Love'

The legendary name of Turkish pop music, İlhan İrem, was bid farewell to his last journey with the words 'Light and love' that became synonymous with him. Speaking at the commemoration ceremony for İrem, İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu“As of this moment, İlhan İrem is entrusted to Istanbul. In Istanbul, we will continue to keep him and his works alive and to make him feel in his special position, just like our other artists.”

İlhan İrem (67), one of the master names of Turkish pop music, passed away on July 28. The legendary artist, who left his mark on a period, was sent off on his last journey today. A commemoration ceremony was held for the deceased İrem at 12.00:XNUMX at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) in Taksim. The body of the master artist was brought to the AKM stage, wrapped in the Turkish flag, as per his will. Meanwhile, her family, friends and fans applauded İrem for several minutes on the stage where she appeared for the last time. The commemoration ceremony organized for İrem brought together many famous names from the art world.

IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu He also gave a speech at the commemoration ceremony held for İrem. Stating that he is in great sadness of losing İrem, İmamoğlu said:

“Today, unfortunately, we are saddened by the loss of one of our values, our artist, a precious of our Istanbul, a precious of our country. When an authorized friend called and informed me about his death, I said to my friend next to me in a very interesting way, 'We lost İlhan İrem' and then 'I loved him very much'. This is a very interesting feeling. Some things build up inside people, and when you lose a moment, you remember. It is very interesting that he made me say that 'I loved him so much'. We did not come together, we did not shake hands. But to give this feeling to a person, to be a person who can give it is probably enough for him to be a very special person. In this sense, he is a very special artist who really gets engraved in people's minds, places emotions and makes them think with his words. Her beautiful and special voice, besides her words, was a truly soothing, thought-provoking and feel-good voice. While he is getting İlhan İrem's place, he makes us feel that he got it right. So there are no artificial additives; it has a place that it has acquired completely naturally and by itself. In addition to his artistry, he is a person who wins everyone's hearts with his personality and artistic stance.”

Emphasizing that İrem is one of the artists who "feels the light on her forehead first" and used in Atatürk's description of the artist, İmamoğlu said, “With her recent writings and expressions, she has shown us how far ahead she can see the future. I wish we could hear these voices more and more often in our country's empty agenda, which sometimes occupies us, brings us nothing, and often takes us back, so that we do not live in these days. He will always be with us with his beautiful feelings, thoughts, works and words. Of course, as of this moment, İlhan İrem is entrusted to Istanbul. In Istanbul, we will continue to keep him and his works alive and to make him feel in his special position, just like our other artists. May God have mercy on him, let his place be in Paradise."

İrem was buried in Aşiyan Cemetery after the funeral prayer at Bebek Mosque.
