Waste collection started on Monday, June 6 for the “Washing the River with Art” project, implemented by the Baksı Culture and Arts Foundation with the support of Bocchi. The children of Bayburt, who betrayed Coruh to rid it of waste, will continue their work for four days, accompanied by trainers.

10 students from 100 schools cross Bayburt to clear Coruh

The project, which aims to raise awareness in the field of environmental awareness, also brings children together with art and creativity. A total of 6 students from 10 secondary schools across Bayburt are participating in the “Washing the River with Art” project, which started in Bayburt, Kurucakol - Kaleardı City Park - Kopuz on Monday, June 100th. Among the educational institutions involved in the project are Adabaşı Secondary School, Bayburt Secondary School, Dede Korkut Secondary School, Erdem Bayazit Secondary School, Konursu Secondary School, Maden Secondary School, Martyr Recep Eşiyok Secondary School, Martyr Sebahattin Secondary School, TOBB Örence Secondary School and Yunus Emre Secondary School. In addition, volunteers from various NGOs such as the Bayburt Women's Association, the Science Spread Society, the Red Crescent Society, the Tema Foundation and the Green Crescent support students during the waste collection phase.

Let waste turn into art, not trash

Aiming to transform waste, which has an important place among current environmental problems, into art, the “Washing the River with Art” project proposes to prioritize the cleaning of both industrial waste and water resources for a sustainable future. Waste to be collected from streams, Prof. Dr. With the leadership of Hüsamettin Koçan and the leadership of Baksı Museum teams, the workshops will turn into works of art. 20 children selected from among the students participating in the waste collection study will participate in the transformation workshops. The artworks produced by the children will first be exhibited at the Baksı Museum in Bayburt, and then they will be transported to Istanbul.

The goal is to create a consciousness transformation about the environment.

The project, which aims to create a consciousness transformation towards intertwined water and industrial waste problems, will continue from year to year with the participation of children from other streams of Turkey and the region where that stream is located.

The founder of Baksı Culture and Art Foundation, Prof. Dr. Hüsamettin Koçan says the following about the project: “The future of Baksı, Bayburt and Turkey is children… More than anything else, we need creative minds with a vision, who are aware of social problems and whose horizons have expanded with art. That's why we care about projects that position our children as active actors rather than spectators to what's going on around them.”
