Turkish Aerospace Industries is completing projects and constructions that shape Turkey's defense industry and aviation. Continuing its investments and projects that are important for the aviation industry, Turkish Aerospace Industries has come to an end in the construction of the Yıldırım Test Facility, where the tests of original products will be carried out. With the Lightning Test Facility, lightning effects will be observed on all objects, including aircraft, and the measures to be taken will be evaluated. While the facility is expected to be operational in 2023, the first test activities will be carried out specifically for the National Combat Aircraft.

FIRST MISSION WILL BE NATIONAL COMBATIVE AIRCRAFT

The first mission at the Yıldırım Test Facility, which will be used in the tests of all original products manufactured by Turkish Aerospace Industries, will be the National Combat Aircraft Project (MMU).

At the Lightning Test Facility, which will conduct its first tests specifically for the National Combat Aircraft (MMU), it will be tested that the MMU does not have any physical damage or electromagnetic interaction with the effect of lightning, and the fuel system will be evaluated.

In addition to ensuring the flight safety of the MMU, it will be tested that the mission systems are not damaged during lightning and that the lightning effects will not prevent the MMU platform from performing its mission.

The Lightning Test Facility will enable the natural lightning event, which includes high voltage and high current, to be produced artificially in a controlled and measurable way in a laboratory environment. Lightning Test Facility; will consist of high voltage, high current generators, fuel test systems, control and measurement systems.

Speaking about the importance of the Yıldırım Test Facility, Turkish Aerospace Industries General Manager Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil said: “We continue to invest in high technologies for our defense industry and our country. We are justifiably proud of bringing another facility to our country where we can conduct the tests of all our original products, especially the National Combat Aircraft, locally.“
