Turkey Road Championship Organized by Gaziantep Metropolitan Has Started

Turkey Road Championship, organized by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality under the coordination of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Turkish Cycling Federation and Gaziantep Governorship, has started.

In the championship, which started with the U23 Men's category in Burç Rural District, 13 competitors from 58 provinces pedaled for 123,5 kilometers. Sports fans, who showed interest in the championship, had exciting moments on the track of about 2 hours, where young cyclists sweated, while the performance of the competitors was applauded.

In the championship where approximately 300 athletes will participate; There are 23 categories in total: Big Men, Big Women, U23 Men, U17 Women, Young Men, Young Women, U15 Women and U8 Women. The competition of cyclists, accompanied by the natural beauties and cultural richness of Gaziantep, will be crowned with trophies and medals to be given to the top athletes.

Zekeriya Efiloğlu, Head of Youth Services and Sports Department of the Metropolitan Municipality, said in a statement regarding the championship that Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality's support for sports and athletes is increasing day by day, and said:

“Cycling is not our ancestral sport, but it can be our main sport. In this sense, one of the important works of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin to make our city a sports-friendly city since the day she took office is the work she has done on bicycles, which we have distributed to our children and youth until now, nearly 100 thousand bicycles. We held our mountain bike competition last week. This week, we are organizing the Turkish Road Championship, which is on the calendar of the Turkish Cycling Federation.”

Explaining that there is a great interest in cycling in Gaziantep, Efiloğlu said, “We focus on the cycling program. We aim to encourage our youth, the citizens of Gazi to use bicycles. As Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, we invest in bicycles very seriously and our children show us the return of this.” he said.
