Peugeot's New Model 408 Introduced

Peugeot's remarkable new model, the 408, brings a new interpretation to the automotive world by combining SUV codes and dynamic design in the C segment.

As Peugeot ushers in a new era with the new 408, it combines eye-catching design with the brand's latest design language, engineering excellence focused on efficiency and electric, superior driving pleasure that stirs emotions and advanced technologies focused on instinctive use.

With its new 408 model, Peugeot breaks the mold with its dynamic silhouette and flawless design. The brand's unique cat stance, which is the first to stand out in the design of the new 408, is a reference to brand belonging. Along with its sharp design lines, the front design proudly hosts the new lion-headed PEUGEOT logo. The reverse cut of the rear bumper gives the eye-catching profile a powerful look. The new PEUGEOT 408, with 20-inch wheels and 720 mm diameter wheels, is firmly on the ground and gives confidence. Details such as the lion's-tooth design light signature at the front and the three-clawed LED taillights at the rear perfectly integrate the 408 into the Peugeot family.

The new Peugeot offers 408 mm rear seat legroom, with a length of 4690, 2787 mm and a wheelbase of 188 mm. With 536 liters, the luggage volume is quite large, with the rear seats folded down to 1.611 liters. The new Peugeot 408 maintains its design integrity with its height of 1480 mm, while increasing its aerodynamic efficiency.

The new Peugeot 408 is equipped with the new generation Peugeot, i-Cockpit®, which draws attention to both the driver and passengers with its driving pleasure and ease of use, and also supports driving pleasure with its compact steering wheel. In the cockpit, the emphasis is on quality and connectivity, with cutting-edge technologies to elevate the driving experience to a more intuitive and satisfying level.

With the new 2008, Peugeot has succeeded in becoming the reference point of its class with every model, by continuing the success it has achieved in recent years with the SUV 3008, SUV 5008 and SUV 308 models. With the new 408, Peugeot increases its product range in the highly competitive C segment and continues the success of the brand in this class. The new Peugeot, 408, meets all the needs that people in the modern world expect from a car.

Driving support systems supported by 408 cameras and 6 radars offered in the new Peugeot 9 provide more peaceful and safe driving. Among these systems; Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, 'Night Vision' Night Vision System, which detects animals, pedestrians or cyclists ahead of them before they appear in the high beam and warns the driver, Long Range Blind Spot Warning System (75 meters), and Reverse Maneuver, which warns of a possible danger when reversing. It has a Traffic Alert System.

The task of driving the Peugeot 408 is undertaken by two 180 and 225 HP rechargeable Hybrid (PHEV) and 1.2-liter PureTech 130 HP petrol engines. All three engine options are paired with an 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission. A fully electric version will be added to the engine range in the future. For the designers of the new Peugeot 408, efficiency has been one of the most important issues. The package, which consists of aerodynamics, lightweight construction and low-emission engines, means very low consumption for both the hybrid and 130 HP petrol versions.

Making statements about the new Peugeot 408, Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson said, “As Peugeot, we believe that life is more beautiful with aesthetic designs. With its unique appearance, innovative design language and unparalleled elegance, the new 408 is the perfect expression of the philosophy and creativity of the Peugeot brand," added Linda Jackson, adding, "The new Peugeot 408, which is eye-catching in every way, is designed for car enthusiasts who want to get rid of the traditional while looking for driving pleasure. It embodies Peugeot's advanced technological standards that offer a high level of efficiency and a high-end digital experience, as well as intuitive driving pleasure.”

The new Peugeot 408 will be introduced to the market at the beginning of 2023. The model, which has global targets, will be produced first in Mulhouse, France for the European market, and shortly afterwards at the Chengdu factory in China for the Chinese market.

The unique appeal of dynamic and innovative design blended with SUV codes

The design language of the new 408 with its cat stance unique to PEUGEOT models, with its innovative concept, reveals a perfect harmony with the C segment. While sharp surfaces draw attention especially in the rear design, the sharp surfaces used at the end of the ceiling and under the side facades bring light plays.

The 408 has an unusual, eye-catching exterior design in the C segment. Produced using the EMP2 platform, the 408 pushes the limits of its class with a length of 4.690 mm, a width of 1.859 mm (with mirrors folded) and a wheelbase of 2.787 mm. The wheelbase in question brings with it a large rear seat living area. With a front track of 1.599 mm and a rear track of 1.604 mm, the new Peugeot 408 has a strong and confident stance on the road with its 20-inch wheels and 720 mm diameter wheels. With its height of 408 mm, the new Peugeot 1.480 reveals an elegant and sporty profile.

When viewed from the front, the horizontal and long engine hood, which is the characteristic element of the new generation Peugeot models, draws attention. This design choice visually hides the hood/side cavities, while at the same time giving the car a modern and powerful look. Again, this design practice simplifies the outline of the body, ensuring that the body parts fit perfectly.

The Matrix LED technology used in the headlights provides high lighting performance, while at the same time allowing thin headlight designs. This headlight design gives the 408 a determined and powerful look. The light signature extends downwards with two LED strips in a lion's tooth design integrated into the bumper.

The front grille gives the new 408 an assertive and powerful appearance. It also hosts the new brand logo that hides the radar of driver assistance systems. Having the grille in body color makes it integrate with the overall bumper. This design approach, which is used in the new generation Peugeot models, is also a sign for the transition to electric. Large black surfaces characterize the graphic theme of the front and visually emphasize the car's width and solidity. Black guards surrounding the body combine to enclose and contrast the lion-tooth design light signature, increasing the visibility of the light signature.

The profile of the new Peugeot 408 is highlighted by the dividing line of black and body colored parts, designed to reinforce dynamism. Again, this dividing line draws attention to the width of the interior, especially with the side window line and the rear window line. The side protection coatings of the body and wheel arches cut the body color at a certain angle, creating an inverted effect with a curved line and extending to the rear bumper. The rear of the roofline bears a particularly big responsibility in terms of aerodynamics. The airflow is optimized by being directed towards the tailgate spoiler by two “cat ears” forming an excellent aerodynamic corridor.

The massive 20-inch wheels stand out even when stationary and create a unique visual impact when driving at low speeds. The unusual design of the wheels is also in line with the concept approach of the new 408. The new PEUGEOT 408 will be produced in 6 different body colors: Obsession Blue, Titanium Grey, Techno Grey, Elixir Red, Pearlescent White and Pearl Black.

Efficiency specialist engines combined with aerodynamics

Reducing consumption and CO₂ emissions has been a top priority for Peugeot teams when developing the new 408. As with all Peugeot models, aerodynamics were handled with great care. The bumper, tailgate, diffuser, mirrors, underbody trim have been optimized with the body in close collaboration between Peugeot's design and aerodynamics engineers. In addition, the design of the wheels provides better aerodynamic efficiency and contributes to the car's overall performance. Body rigidity has been optimized by incorporating structural elements to increase vibration comfort.

11,18 m turning circle, superior handling, best-in-class driving comfort and superior driving pleasure form part of the new PEUGEOT 408's DNA. The new PEUGEOT 408 is available in rim sizes from 17 to 20 inches. Class A tires are used to increase efficiency by reducing rolling resistance without compromising the brand's superior handling characteristics.

The new PEUGEOT 408 is offered with two rechargeable hybrid engines, the PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 and the PLUG-IN HYBRID 180 e-EAT8. 180 e-EAT8; PureTech gasoline engine with 150 HP and electric motor with 81 kW, while 225 e-EAT8 has 180 HP PureTech gasoline engine and 81 kW electric motor. Both plug-in hybrid engines transfer their power to the front wheels via an EAT8 8-speed automatic transmission. Both rechargeable hybrid versions have a charging capacity of 12,4 kWh and a power of 102 kW with a lithium-ion battery. Charging is done with a 3,7 kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 7,4 kW single-phase charger. A full charge takes approximately 7,4 hour 1 minutes with a 55 kW Wall Box or a single-phase integrated charger, while a full charge takes approximately 3,7 hours and 3 minutes with a 50 kW charger. With a standard socket, a full charge takes approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes.

There is also a 3-cylinder 130 HP 1.2-liter PureTech internal combustion engine option. With its 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission and start&stop feature, this engine meets the Euro 6.4 emission norm. In the future, an all-electric version will also be offered.

Unique driving experience with the Peugeot i-Cockpit®

While the Peugeot i-Cockpit® is one of the strongest points that distinguishes the Peugeot models from their competitors, it has been further developed and modernized with each new generation. The new infotainment system, Peugeot i-Connect®, introduced with the new Peugeot 408, sets new standards in terms of ergonomics, quality, practicality and technology.

The compact steering wheel, one of the most important elements of the Peugeot i-Cockpit®, increases driving pleasure with its unique agility and motion sensitivity. While the steering wheel has an ergonomic design, it is equipped with a heating feature as an option. The new digital display, located at eye level just above the steering wheel, has a 10-inch digital display. With the GT equipment level, 3-Dimensional technology comes into play. The digital display is fully customizable and has various display modes (TomTom Connected Navigation, Radio/Media, Driving Assistance Systems, Energy Flow, etc.) that can be changed from the control panel.

The front console structure of the new Peugeot 408 is based on high ventilation architecture. This architecture places the air outlets in a high position in the head area of the passengers to increase thermal comfort. Again, this architecture allows the central 10-inch touchscreen, which is slightly lower than the digital display in front of the driver, to approach the driver. The system is supported by customizable i-toggle buttons, which are placed clearly under the central display and provide a level of aesthetics and technology unmatched in its segment. Each i-toggle acts as a touch-sensitive shortcut tailored to the user's preference, be it climate, phone settings, radio station or app.

One of the goals of the Peugeot Interior Design Team when designing the cabin of the new 408 was to balance the space between the front passengers. The Peugeot i-Cockpit® continues the driver-oriented central display philosophy that optimizes driving ergonomics. The center console is deliberately shaped by a passenger-oriented design. All dynamic controls are grouped into an arc on the driver's side. With a single touch, the driver can choose between the driving modes of the 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission.

Cabin comfort that sets standards in its class

Designed as the best in the C segment, the new Peugeot 408 offers rich equipment for superior driving pleasure. Equipped with front seats that have the AGR certificate of the independent German association of ergonomics and back health experts, the new 408 turns even the longest journeys into pleasure with its rich seat adjustment options. The seats can be equipped with 10-way electric adjustment with two memories for the driver, 6-way electric adjustment for the passenger, as well as 5 air massage and seat heating functions with 8 different programs. The design of the seats; It complements quality materials, including porous fabric, technical mesh, alcantara, embossed leather and colored nappa. In GT versions, the seats, instrument panel, door panels and pads on the console are trimmed with Adamite colored thread. The center console arch extends to the wireless charging area. The rest of the console is functional and practical, with an armrest, two USB C sockets (charge/data), two large cup holders and storage spaces for up to 33 liters.

The new Peugeot 408, with its 2.787 mm wheelbase, offers a wide living space to its rear seat passengers with 188 mm legroom. The front seats provide legroom for rear passengers to tuck their legs under. The design of the seats and the seat angle give passengers the opportunity to make the most of the space for optimum comfort during their journey. Beginning with the Allure trim level, there are two USB-C charging sockets behind the center console.

The new Peugeot 408 is equipped as standard with a rear seat that folds into two parts (60/40) and a ski hatch. In the GT version, the two sections can be folded practically with two remote controls located on the sides of the trunk. The new 408 offers a spacious trunk with 536 liters. With the rear seats folded down, the trunk volume reaches 1.611 liters. In the internal combustion version, there is an additional 36 liters of storage space under the trunk floor. When the backrest is folded, objects up to 1,89 meters can be loaded. The 12V socket, LED lighting, storage net, strap and bag hooks in the trunk support ease of use. Since the tailgate is fixed to the trunk lid, it lifts up with the lid when the trunk lid is opened, making the trunk easier to use. The auto-opening electric tailgate facilitates luggage access when hands are full. To open the trunk lid, the foot reach under the bumper, the remote control, the trunk lid button or the trunk release button on the dashboard can be used.

The LED ambient lighting (8 color options) behind the central display emits a light that is easy on the eyes. The same light extends to the door panels made of cloth, Alcantara® or original pressed aluminium, depending on equipment level.

The warmth and acoustic comfort of the new PEUGEOT 408 has been enhanced by special glass technologies. Optionally, fully heated windshield, 3,85 mm thick front and rear glass, laminated front and side windows depending on equipment level offer additional sound insulation and security.

The air conditioning system also contributes to the thermal comfort of the passengers. The front vents are positioned high and there are two vents behind the center console for rear seat passengers. AQS (Air Quality System) constantly monitors the quality of the air entering the passenger compartment. The system automatically activates the outside air recirculation. Superior technology and safety standard

The new Peugeot 408 is equipped with the latest driver assistance systems. Some of these systems, which work with 6 cameras and 9 radars, draw attention with the fact that they are offered in upper segment vehicles. While the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function adjusts the distance between vehicles, the automatic emergency brake with collision warning detects pedestrians and cyclists day and night from 7 km/h to 140 km/h. Active lane departure warning with direction correction function contributes to increase driving safety. Driver Distraction Alert analyzes steering wheel movements and detects distraction at speeds above 65 km/h and during long-term driving. The traffic sign recognition system, whose scope has been expanded, detects stop signs, one-way, no-overtaking, no-overtaking end signs in addition to speed signs and displays them on the digital display. The 'Night Vision' Night Vision System detects living things (pedestrians/animals) in front of the vehicle at night or when visibility is poor, with the infrared vision system before the high-beam headlights' visibility. The long-range blind spot monitoring system scans up to 75 meters. The rear traffic alert warns the driver of an imminent danger while reversing. The 180° angle high-definition rear view camera with integrated cleaning head does not compromise safety even if the vehicle gets dirty. With 4 high resolution cameras (front, rear and side) and 360° parking assist, side mirror angle adjustment when reverse gear is engaged makes the driver's job easier in parking and maneuvering. The automatic high beam ensures maximum use of the high beams without dazzling the Matrix LED headlights ahead or oncoming vehicles.

The Drive Assist 2.0 package is one step closer to semi-autonomous driving. This package consists of Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go Function and Lane Keeping Assist. The system adds two new functions used on dual-lane roads; At speeds between 70 km/h and 180 km/h, a semi-automatic lane change that allows the driver to overtake the vehicle in front of him and return to his lane, and an estimated speed recommendation that advises the driver to adapt his speed (acceleration or deceleration) according to the speed limit signs.

The new Peugeot 408 also offers different equipment to facilitate daily use. Among them; It features proximity hands-free entry and starting, hands-free opening with electric tailgate, fully defrosting heated windshield and heated steering wheel, super-lock alarm with perimeter and interior monitoring, electric handbrake on all versions, and a sunroof with curtain.

The new Peugeot 408 is equipped with an e-call emergency call system, which includes information on the number of passengers and location, including the direction of the vehicle on the road.
