Emphasizing that all institutions of the state should take a strong stance on this issue, İmamoğlu said, "As the local government, we, as IMM, take a step towards an important social responsibility in terms of supporting individuals struggling with addiction and their relatives."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluvisited the Social Cohesion Support Center (SUDEM), which they opened in Bağcılar on February 28, 2022, together with journalists. Making statements to the journalists after the study tour, İmamoğlu said, “We are experiencing an invisible threat in Istanbul. At the point of fighting addiction, Istanbul really gives an alarm, so to speak, in this situation," he said. Emphasizing that all institutions of the state should take a strong stance on this issue, İmamoğlu said, “As the local government, we, as İBB, have taken a step towards an important social responsibility in terms of supporting individuals struggling with addiction and their relatives. With this in mind, we established the Addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Branch on 18 November 2020 to provide preventive, preventive and rehabilitative services for alcohol, substance and technology addiction. It was also on the agenda in our Assembly at that time, and by cooperating with our Assembly on this issue, we signed the establishment of such a directorate.”

“WE PROVIDE FREE SERVICE TO INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED DEFENDANT AND THEIR FAMILIES”

Sharing the knowledge that they have established a SUDEM in Sultanbeyli together with Bağcılar, İmamoğlu said, “We provide service in Bağcılar with a team of experts such as clinical psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists. We have been here since February. Our center in Sultanbeyli started its service this month. Here especially; We provide rehabilitation, counseling and referral services in the field of addiction and provide free service to individuals diagnosed with addiction and their families. In addition to supporting the rehabilitation of individuals diagnosed with addiction and the provision of social cohesion after purification, we also continue protective and preventive work. At the same time, we are presenting an effective process to our citizens with awareness and empowerment activities.”

“AGE TO USE DRUGS IS VERY LOW”

Noting that the age of starting to use drugs is very young, according to the police and ministry data, İmamoğlu said, “Sometimes, we detect that there are adult people who secretly experience this process within the family. And of course, this creates a serious environmental problem," he said. Noting that the treatment processes on the subject are carried out by the Ministry of Interior, İmamoğlu said, "We are doing an effective follow-up process with the follow-up and support we do here, and then with a follow-up process that includes getting a job, gaining skills and supporting them with culture and arts activities in these aspects. We are struggling with addiction in these centers and we will continue to do so.”

“OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE SIDE WITH EVERYONE THOUGHT TO BE HELPED, DESPERATE AND ALONE”

“Of course, it is our responsibility to be there for everyone who thinks they are helpless, hopeless, alone. IMM will continue to carry out this responsibility at a very high level," said Imamoglu, reminding that they gave similar struggles during the district mayorship period. Expressing that they achieved results from the struggle with a determined stance at that time, İmamoğlu underlined that they will continue to work in coordination with the district municipalities. Imamoglu said, "I think that convincing them what they found in the field, bringing them here and bringing them together with us will make us victorious in Istanbul in the fight against addiction."
