The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Implementation Support Symposium, which brings together the global aviation industry and took place with the participation of 140 countries, started in Istanbul, hosted by Turkey.
The symposium (ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 28-ICAO GISS), hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Civil Aviation, in Istanbul between 1 June-2022 July 2022, in order to develop cooperation at a global level, especially in civil aviation education, is a global event. brought together aviation authorities, national and international aviation organizations, air navigation service providers, academic institutions and civil aviation authorities of member countries in Istanbul.
Speaking at the opening of the symposium chaired by the Chairman of the Board and General Manager Hüseyin Keskin, where the DHMI delegation also attended, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Enver İskurt said that the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, who is planned to attend the opening of the event, is in the Middle Black Sea region, which was affected by heavy rainfall, to make investigations.
Stating that Istanbul is at the center of the world thanks to its enormous location, İskurt said, “This central location provides us with many benefits from tourism to trade, from trade to aviation. For this reason, we are making great efforts to make Istanbul the center of the aviation industry.” said.
Noting that the symposium held in Istanbul, where the heart of world aviation beats, brought together the key players of the aviation ecosystem, İskurt said, “I believe that there will be important outputs for shaping the post-epidemic era with the interactive sessions to be held in the fields of aviation, education and digitalization.” he said.
Stating that Turkey has written a success story in aviation in the last 20 years, İskurt said, “With a 4-hour flight from the region where Istanbul Airport is located, we can reach 1 countries where 650 billion 38 million people live, with a GNP of 7 trillion dollars and a trade volume of 45 trillion 67 billion dollars. ” used the expressions.
FLIGHTS FROM TURKEY TO 129 COUNTRIES
Noting that Turkey has already become a country with a flight network to 129 destinations in 338 countries, Deputy Minister İskurt said that they rose from the 30th rank to the 10th in air transportation.
Stating that they have invested approximately 2003 billion dollars in the airline sector since 16,2, İskurt stated that they have proven that they have a say in the aviation sector by realizing Istanbul Airport.
İskurt said, “Istanbul Airport has become a global hub for tourism in terms of its physical infrastructure, technology investments, service quality and the region it is located in. With our airport, we make a difference by contributing to the international brand value of this unique city, which is the center of a vast geography stretching from east to west. Parallel to the potential of Istanbul Airport, our flag carrier THY's growth strategy also reveals our country's ambition in the aviation sector.” he said.
Noting that THY has erased the traces of the epidemic and increased the number of countries it operates flights to 129 and the number of destinations to 338, İskurt explained that the company provides the highest quality service to its passengers.
“TURKEY WILL ALSO BE THE HUB OF THE AIR-CARGO NETWORK”
Enver İskurt, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that the number of airports, which rose to 57 today, will be increased to 2053 by 61 and continued his words as follows:
“I want it to be known that we are making a big plan for 'emission', one of the most important future issues of aviation. We will establish emission monitoring, reporting, verification infrastructure and strategically manage carbon emissions. We will produce environmentally friendly bio-fuel or synthetic fuel for air transport. We will further develop regional air cargo transportation, Turkey will also be the hub of the air-cargo network.”
Noting that they continue their investments in all areas of transportation, İskurt said, "Our national efforts to produce the first 'Turkish-made' aircraft in line with this goal, the Type Certificate given by our General Directorate of Civil Aviation and received by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) for the 'Hürkuş Trainer Aircraft'. resulted in. We are justifiably proud of having the capacity to design and manufacture our own aircraft.” he said.
“WE WILL NEVER COMMIT TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS”
Deputy Minister İskurt underlined that Turkey would never compromise on international standards in order to ensure the safe and secure development of international civil aviation.
Stating that they will continue to work uninterruptedly in line with ICAO's mission of “Let No Country Be Left Behind” by strengthening regional and global partnerships, İskurt talked about the importance of states, organizations and companies to share their successes and experiences with other countries.
“COLLABORATION WILL BRING POSITIVE RESULTS FOR ALL OF US”
Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization, started his speech by thanking Turkey, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu for their contributions to the symposium.
Explaining that ICAO aims to increase cooperation and solidarity with these events, Salazar talked about the organization's activities for global civil aviation.
Referring to the increase in aviation demand, Salazar stated that airline companies sometimes have difficulties in finding employees and pilots.
Expressing that they want to reconnect the world in solidarity for a common interest, Salazar said that ICAO will continue to support countries on this path.
Stating that they want to work with international organizations, countries, institutions and relevant stakeholders in the context of training development and capacity building, Salazar said, “Therefore, every dollar spent in aviation will ultimately bring positive results. This will make a great contribution to the economy. Likewise, it will directly create jobs and affect employment growth in other sectors as well.” he said.
MORE THAN 9 PARTICIPANTS WILL SPEAK IN 60 DIFFERENT SESSIONS
More than 140 high-level participants will speak in 4 different sessions in the symposium, which will last 9 days and will bring together participants from 60 countries of the world.
In the event, where all aspects of the past, present and future of the global aviation industry will be discussed, the top and middle managers of aviation authorities of ICAO and industry stakeholders will come together. Information and views will be exchanged on best practices, latest trends and innovations to support a safe, secure, sustainable and efficient future for global air transport.
