Nearly 300 Cittaslow member cities will participate

Cittaslow International President and Asolo Mayor Mauro Migliorini will start the meeting with a roundtable meeting for the Cittaslow Metropol project on June 10. The mayors and representatives of nearly 300 Cittaslow network member cities from around the world will attend the meeting. At the meeting, the Cittaslow Metropol project, which was initiated in Izmir to apply the calm life philosophy in metropolitan cities, will be discussed. Cittaslow International Secretary General Pier Giorgio Oliveti, Italian environmentalist, lecturer and researcher, also Honorary Member of the European Environment Agency Scientific Committee Walter Ganapini, Cittaslow Korea Network Coordinator Professor Sohn Dehyun, Professor Degli Antoni from Parma University and Cittaslow Scientific Committee Rural/Urban The "Calm Neighborhood" program implemented in two districts of İzmir will also be discussed at the meeting, which will also be attended by the Head of the Representation Network, Giuseppe Roma.

On Saturday, June 11, the General Assembly will be held with the participation of approximately 160 Cittaslow member mayors and delegates from Korea to Germany, Poland to Brazil.

What is the Cittaslow Metropol project?

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is working on the Cittaslow Metropol project with civil society representatives, academics, experts and opinion leaders to create a metropolitan management model that will start in Izmir and can be applied all over the world. Within the scope of the "Calm Neighborhood" program carried out in Izmir with the Cittaslow Metropol project. KarşıyakaWork continues in Demirköprü District of Istanbul and Pazaryeri District in Konak Agora Ruins. While Cittaslow is a title that cities with a population of less than 50 thousand can hold, the Cittaslow Metropol project aims to spread the Cittaslow philosophy in big cities. The Cittaslow Metropol city model aims at a sustainable, high quality of life that is people-oriented, protects the values ​​of the city. The Cittaslow Metropolis model has 6 main themes: “Society”, “Urban Resilience”, “Access to Good Food”, “Good Governance”, “Mobility” and “Cittaslow Neighborhoods, Calm Neighborhood”. Various criteria were determined under these themes. Within the scope of these criteria, projects were developed and started to be implemented for one year in İzmir.

At the Cittaslow 2021 General Assembly, İzmir was declared the world's first Cittaslow Metropol pilot city and assumed the pioneering role to include other cities in the world in this network. Within the scope of the project, urban models and good life perspectives in the world were analyzed and brought together with the philosophy of "slow life".
