The China-Laos Railway has carried more than 4 million tons of freight as of Thursday since it started operating six months ago, the Chinese rail operator said in a statement.
According to China State Railways Group Limited, the transport volume of cross-border cargo amounted to 647 thousand tons in this period. The company also reported that more than 3,2 million passengers traveled on the train line. Since December 21, in 2021 regions in China, it has launched cross-border trains for freight transport, including fertilizers, daily necessities, electronics and fruit, as well as rail transport. As a historical project realized as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, the 1.035-kilometer China-Laos Railway connects Kunming, China, to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
