As reported by Tactical Report on June 3, 2022, Algeria is interested in supplying ATMACA anti-ship missiles. The development of the ATMACA anti-ship missile began in 2009 and a contract was signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and ROKETSAN in 2018 to start mass production. The first test launch of the ATMACA missile was carried out in the Black Sea from the Ada-class corvette TCG Kınalıada in November 2019. ATMACA, which carried out many firing tests throughout the development process, successfully destroyed the target in the test carried out in June 2021 with its live warhead configuration.
ATMACA, a modern guided missile developed and produced by ROKETSAN that can be used in all weather conditions, is resistant to countermeasures; It includes target update, re-attack and mission cancellation capabilities. In addition, thanks to the advanced mission planning system (3D routing), it can be effective against fixed and moving targets. Using the Global Positioning System, Inertial Measurement Unit, Barometric Altimeter and Radar Altimeter subsystems, ATMACA uses its active radar seeker to find its target with high accuracy.
As reported by the Navy Recognition, the Algerian National Navy currently has Chinese anti-ship missiles such as the YJ-83, Russian anti-ship missiles (3M-54 Kalibr, Kh-31) and Swedish anti-ship missiles (RBS 15) in its inventory.
