The opening of the international standards athletics track, which was brought to the city for the 9th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held between 18-5 August, hosted by Konya, was opened with the participation of Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum. Minister Kasapoğlu said, “Just as Konya has become popular with its fertile plains and lands, it will be referred to as a brand city in sports from now on. The sports revolution in Turkey is taking place concretely under the witness of Konya.” said. Minister Kurum stated that Konya has always been an exemplary city with its infrastructure, superstructure, roads and green areas, and said that they are always with Turkish sports. President Altay stated that they opened a facility at international standards and emphasized that Konya will host the games in the best way possible.
In Konya, which is preparing for the fifth of the Islamic Solidarity Games, the largest sports organization among Islamic countries, the opening of the athletics track, which was brought to the city by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay reminded that the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games will start in Konya on August 9, and that they will host nearly 56 thousand athletes and trainers from 3 Islamic countries during this period.

Noting that the eyes and ears of the Islamic world will be in Konya, President Altay said, “We are making all our preparations for this. Today we will inaugurate an athletics track of international standards. Right next to our olympic swimming pool has reached the final stage. We hope to open it as soon as possible with the participation of our Minister. And Turkey's first full Olympic velodrome, held in the Meram region, has reached its final stage. Thus, our city gains very important sports facilities.” he said.
