Work has also been completed on the Menemen route of the 500-kilometer İzmir route that connects Bergama and Ephesus. The 27-kilometer rural bicycle route in the Menemen district has been put into use. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer introduced the Menemen bicycle route with the people of Menemen and bicycle lovers as part of the World Bicycle Day activities. Stating that they are working intensively in İzmir to encourage and increase bicycle transportation, Mayor Soyer said, “We are opening new tracks and routes, we are building new bicycle paths. The more we depend on motor vehicles, the more we poison our own lives. Cycling is both very suitable for a healthy life and a much cleaner and cheaper means of transportation. That's why we will do everything to popularize the bike and make it use it intensively.”

Thus, İzmir became the first city from Turkey that applied to EuroVelo, which has an annual economic size of approximately 7 billion Euros, and whose application was approved. The 500-kilometer-long bicycle route connecting the ancient cities of Bergama and Ephesus is expected to contribute to urban tourism and transportation.
