Li-ion batteries locally designed and produced by ASPİLSAN Enerji A.Ş., which is the pioneer of the battery and battery industry in our country, will be used in the Turkcell network infrastructure. Strategic cooperation between Turkcell and ASPİLSAN Energy in domestic battery production
Supporting its strong network infrastructure with innovative technologies, Turkcell signed a strategic cooperation with ASPİLSAN Energy, which produces domestic Li-ion batteries. Within the scope of the agreement, lithium batteries produced locally by ASPİLSAN Energy with national technology will be used in the Turkcell network infrastructure between 2022 and 2025.

With the development of technology and the affordable level of material costs, the use of Li-ion (lithium-ion) batteries instead of traditional VRLA (lead acid) battery products for a sustainable ecosystem is increasing. Acting with a focus on innovation and locality in all business processes, Turkcell contributes to the development of the domestic ecosystem in meeting network infrastructure needs by leading the sector in technological change in this area.

In this context, the cooperation between ASPİLSAN Energy, a company of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, which produces domestic batteries, and Turkcell, which started in 2019, has been transformed into a concrete step with the start of Li-ion battery production. The tests and developments of lithium battery products in accordance with the standards designed as a result of the joint work of Turkcell and ASPİLSAN Energy R&D engineers were completed last January.

Turkcell took this cooperation one step further and decided to procure the Li-ion batteries that it will use in its network in the 2022-2025 period from ASPİLSAN Energy. Within the scope of the agreement, approximately 3,5 thousand 20V 48 Ah Li-ion batteries will be produced and supplied at ASPİLSAN Energy's facilities in Kayseri for 100 years. In addition to the production activities, R&D studies between the two companies covering the development of new products and battery technology will also continue.

Gediz Sezgin: “Lithium batteries developed with domestic resources will provide added value for the country's economy”

Making an assessment on the subject, Turkcell Deputy General Manager for Network Technologies Gediz Sezgin said, “As a company that always develops and implements innovative products and services in the sector, we have signed an important cooperation regarding the batteries needed in our network infrastructure. In order to contribute to Turkey's national technology move, we aim to provide a significant added value to our sector and the country's economy by using Li-ion batteries developed with domestic resources in our infrastructure, within the framework of our domestic approach, which is among our main priorities. In cooperation with ASPİLSAN Energy, we continue to contribute to the development of the domestic technology ecosystem in our country. We believe that in addition to the joint R&D studies to be continued, we will also contribute to the development of battery technologies in our country with the experience we will have in the field, by taking delivery of the first batteries and starting to apply them in our network until the autumn.”

Ferhat Özsoy: “The domestic Li-ion batteries we produce for the telecommunications industry will reduce our dependence on foreign sources”

Ferhat Özsoy, General Manager of ASPİLSAN Energy, said, “As ASPİLSAN Energy, one of the companies of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, we have been developing future-oriented solutions with domestic and national products that will reduce our country's dependence on foreign energy systems in the field of energy systems for 41 years. We carry out R&D activities in many fields in order to reach innovative solutions and bring them to our country. We are working on R&D collaborations and production opportunities in the international arena to ensure that the latest technologies in the energy sector are used in our country at the same time as the world. After this cooperation with Turkcell, we will have implemented a very important project for our country in communication technologies. Within the scope of the project, 48V 100Ah Li-ion battery products designed and produced by ASPİLSAN Energy will be widely used in the Turkcell network. Thus, we will make an important contribution to our country in terms of economy with this project.”

Batteries produced with domestic technology will be used this year.

ASPİLSAN Energy Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Turan Özdemir and ASPİLSAN Energy General Manager Ferhat Özsoy, Turkcell Deputy General Manager for Network Technologies Gediz Sezgin and Deputy General Manager for Supply Chain Management Ali Türk attended. Within the scope of the signed contract, the production process of 2022 lithium-ion batteries to be delivered to October 300 has been started.

ASPİLSAN Energy products, which also have the certificate of locality approved by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, are produced in Kayseri. ASPİLSAN Energy plans to start mass production very soon in its new facility established in Mimarsinan Organized Industrial Zone in order to manufacture rechargeable Li-ion battery cells in Turkey.
