Expressing that Nazım Hikmet fights for what he believes, President Soyer said:
“Nâzım wrote about the fight. He wrote the incarceration. Because he spent 13 years of his life in prison. He wrote love. Because he was in love with life. He told nature. Because he was a terrific natural literate person. He wrote the exile. Because until the day he died, he was burning with longing for his country. Most importantly, Nazım Hikmet wrote us.”

In his speech, Chairman Soyer recited lines from Nazım Hikmet's poem “Where Do We Come From and Where Are We Going”.
